Which construction companies sponsor visas in Pennsylvania?
Major general contractors like Turner Construction, Skanska USA, and Bechtel Corporation actively sponsor H-1B visas for engineering and project management roles in Pennsylvania. Regional firms including Alvin H. Butz, Inc. and Joseph B. Fay Company also provide sponsorship for specialized positions. Energy sector contractors working on natural gas infrastructure and renewable projects frequently sponsor international talent for technical roles.
How to find construction visa sponsorship jobs in Pennsylvania?
Migrate Mate specializes in connecting international professionals with construction companies offering visa sponsorship in Pennsylvania. The platform filters opportunities by location and visa sponsorship status, focusing on roles in civil engineering, project management, and specialized trades. Many Pennsylvania construction firms partner with Migrate Mate to identify qualified international candidates for H-1B and other work authorization programs.
Which cities in Pennsylvania have the most construction sponsorship jobs?
Philadelphia leads with major infrastructure projects including airport expansion and transit development, offering numerous H-1B opportunities. Pittsburgh follows with urban redevelopment and energy sector projects. Allentown benefits from its strategic location for logistics and distribution centers, while Harrisburg provides opportunities in government and institutional construction. Energy corridor regions also sponsor for pipeline and renewable projects.
What visa types are most common for construction roles in Pennsylvania?
H-1B visas dominate for engineering positions including civil, structural, and mechanical engineers working on Pennsylvania's infrastructure projects. Some specialized roles may qualify for O-1 visas for professionals with extraordinary ability. TN status applies to Canadian and Mexican engineers, while L-1 transfers serve international construction firms with Pennsylvania operations. Entry-level trades typically don't qualify for most work visa categories.
How do Pennsylvania prevailing wages affect construction visa sponsorship?
Pennsylvania's prevailing wage requirements vary significantly by region, with Philadelphia metropolitan area commanding higher rates than rural counties. The Department of Labor's wage determinations factor in local construction market conditions and union agreements. Energy sector projects often carry higher prevailing wages due to specialized skill requirements, while residential construction typically offers lower compensation that may not meet H-1B salary thresholds.
What is the prevailing wage for sponsored construction jobs in Pennsylvania?
U.S. employers sponsoring a visa must pay at least the prevailing wage, which is what workers in the same role, area, and experience level typically earn. The Department of Labor sets this rate to make sure companies aren't hiring foreign workers simply because they'd accept lower pay than a U.S. worker. It varies by job title, location, and experience. You can look up current prevailing wage rates for any occupation and location using the OFLC Wage Search page.
