Which aerospace and defense companies sponsor H-1B visas in Pennsylvania?
Several major employers in Pennsylvania have a documented history of H-1B visa sponsorship in aerospace and defense. Lockheed Martin operates a significant presence in King of Prussia, Boeing maintains rotorcraft production in Ridley Park, and Sikorsky has facilities in Coatesville. Mid-tier defense contractors and systems integrators concentrated in the Philadelphia suburbs and the Lehigh Valley also regularly file H-1B petitions for engineering and technical roles.
Which cities in Pennsylvania have the most aerospace and defense H-1B sponsorship jobs?
The Philadelphia metropolitan area, particularly the western suburbs including King of Prussia, Ridley Park, and Coatesville, concentrates the largest share of aerospace and defense H-1B roles in Pennsylvania. The Lehigh Valley around Allentown also supports defense manufacturing and systems work. Pittsburgh has a growing presence in defense-adjacent advanced manufacturing and autonomous systems, driven partly by Carnegie Mellon University's research partnerships.
What types of aerospace and defense roles typically qualify for H-1B sponsorship in Pennsylvania?
Roles that qualify for H-1B sponsorship must meet the specialty occupation standard, requiring at least a bachelor's degree in a directly related field. In Pennsylvania's aerospace and defense sector, this commonly includes aerospace engineers, systems engineers, electrical and mechanical engineers, avionics software developers, radar and signals processing specialists, and defense program managers with technical degrees. Positions requiring security clearances can complicate H-1B sponsorship, as clearances are generally only accessible to U.S. persons.
How do I find aerospace and defense H-1B sponsorship jobs in Pennsylvania?
Migrate Mate is built specifically for international candidates seeking H-1B sponsorship roles, including aerospace and defense positions in Pennsylvania. You can filter directly by visa type, industry, and state to surface companies that have sponsored H-1B workers in this sector. This saves significant time compared to manually researching employer sponsorship histories through Department of Labor disclosure data.
Are there any Pennsylvania-specific or industry-specific considerations for H-1B sponsorship in aerospace and defense?
Security clearance requirements are the most significant industry-specific factor. Many advanced aerospace and defense programs in Pennsylvania require active clearances, which are generally limited to U.S. citizens and permanent residents. This effectively restricts H-1B candidates to unclassified programs or roles on the path to clearance eligibility. Employers like Lockheed Martin and Boeing do maintain substantial unclassified engineering and software work, but candidates should confirm clearance requirements before applying.
What is the prevailing wage for H-1B aerospace & defense jobs in Pennsylvania?
U.S. employers sponsoring a visa must pay at least the prevailing wage, which is what workers in the same role, area, and experience level typically earn. The Department of Labor sets this rate to make sure companies aren't hiring foreign workers simply because they'd accept lower pay than a U.S. worker. It varies by job title, location, and experience. You can look up current prevailing wage rates for any occupation and location using the OFLC Wage Search page.
