Which aerospace and defense companies sponsor H-1B visas in New Jersey?
Several major defense contractors with New Jersey operations have filed H-1B visa petitions through the Department of Labor, including Lockheed Martin (Moorestown), L3Harris Technologies, Northrop Grumman, and BAE Systems. Smaller defense-focused engineering firms and government contractors operating near military installations like Joint Base McGuire-Dix-Lakehurst also appear in H-1B disclosure data. Sponsorship practices vary by role, department, and hiring cycle, so confirming with each employer directly is important.
Which cities in New Jersey have the most aerospace and defense H-1B sponsorship jobs?
Moorestown is one of the most active locations given Lockheed Martin's Rotary and Mission Systems operations there. Mount Laurel, Cherry Hill, and Marlton in Burlington and Camden counties host additional defense contractor offices. The Route 1 corridor through Princeton and Parsippany-Troy Hills also has a concentration of engineering and defense technology employers. Proximity to Philadelphia and New York City makes northern and central New Jersey hubs for multi-site defense programs.
What types of aerospace and defense roles typically qualify for H-1B sponsorship?
H-1B sponsorship in aerospace and defense generally applies to specialty occupation roles requiring at least a bachelor's degree in a specific technical field. Common qualifying positions include systems engineers, radar and avionics engineers, software developers working on defense platforms, mechanical and electrical engineers, and cybersecurity analysts supporting classified programs. Program management roles with a technical degree requirement also frequently appear in H-1B filings for New Jersey defense employers.
How do I find aerospace and defense H-1B sponsorship jobs in New Jersey?
Migrate Mate is built specifically for international candidates seeking H-1B sponsorship roles, including aerospace and defense positions in New Jersey. You can filter by state, visa type, and industry to surface relevant openings from employers with a documented history of H-1B filings. This saves considerable time compared to manually cross-referencing job postings with Department of Labor disclosure data to verify sponsorship willingness.
Are there any state-specific or industry-specific considerations for H-1B sponsorship in New Jersey aerospace and defense?
Many defense roles in New Jersey require or eventually require a U.S. security clearance, which is only available to U.S. citizens and permanent residents. H-1B holders are generally ineligible for clearances, which limits access to certain classified programs. Candidates are typically better positioned for unclassified engineering, research, and development roles. Checking whether a position explicitly requires a clearance before applying can help focus your search on roles where H-1B sponsorship is a realistic outcome.
What is the prevailing wage for H-1B aerospace & defense jobs in New Jersey?
U.S. employers sponsoring a visa must pay at least the prevailing wage, which is what workers in the same role, area, and experience level typically earn. The Department of Labor sets this rate to make sure companies aren't hiring foreign workers simply because they'd accept lower pay than a U.S. worker. It varies by job title, location, and experience. You can look up current prevailing wage rates for any occupation and location using the OFLC Wage Search page.
