Which construction companies sponsor H-2B visas in South Dakota?
Regional and national contractors working on infrastructure, commercial builds, and highway projects in South Dakota have historically filed H-2B Labor Condition Applications. Companies operating across the Black Hills, Rapid City, and Sioux Falls metro areas are among the more active filers. You can review certified LCA filings by employer through the OFLC's public disclosure data to identify which specific contractors have sponsored H-2B workers in construction roles.
Which cities in South Dakota have the most construction H-2B sponsorship jobs?
Rapid City and Sioux Falls account for the largest share of commercial and residential construction activity in South Dakota, making them the most common locations for H-2B construction filings. The Black Hills region also sees seasonal demand tied to tourism infrastructure and resort development. Smaller markets like Aberdeen and Brookings occasionally generate H-2B openings when large-scale public works or utility projects are underway.
What types of construction roles typically qualify for H-2B sponsorship?
H-2B sponsorship in construction is most commonly used for temporary, seasonal roles where U.S. workers are in short supply. Qualifying positions typically include roofers, framers, concrete finishers, pipefitters, laborers, and equipment operators. The employer must demonstrate the need is temporary and that qualified U.S. workers are not available for the positions. O*NET occupation codes are used to classify roles when employers file with DOL.
How do I find construction H-2B sponsorship jobs in South Dakota?
Migrate Mate lists construction jobs with verified H-2B sponsorship history in South Dakota, letting you filter by occupation, location, and visa type in one place. You can identify employers who have filed H-2B LCAs for construction roles specifically in the state. Because H-2B positions are seasonal and time-limited, checking Migrate Mate regularly during early spring gives you the best chance of finding active openings before the peak hiring window closes.
Are there any state-specific considerations for H-2B construction workers in South Dakota?
South Dakota's construction season is heavily weather-driven, with the majority of outdoor work concentrated between April and October. H-2B petitions must document the temporary or seasonal nature of the need, which aligns naturally with this climate pattern. Workers should also be aware that South Dakota does not have a state income tax, which affects take-home pay calculations. Employers are required to comply with DOL prevailing wage requirements set through the OFLC Wage Search for the relevant occupation and county.
What is the prevailing wage for H-2B construction jobs in South Dakota?
U.S. employers sponsoring a visa must pay at least the prevailing wage, which is what workers in the same role, area, and experience level typically earn. The Department of Labor sets this rate to make sure companies aren't hiring foreign workers simply because they'd accept lower pay than a U.S. worker. It varies by job title, location, and experience. You can look up current prevailing wage rates for any occupation and location using the OFLC Wage Search page.
