Metro United Way Vision and Mission: The vision of Metro United Way is that our regional community will be the most vital, caring community in the nation. Our mission is to improve lives by mobilizing the caring power of our community.
Metro United Way (MUW) is a force for positive change. We work every day to lift our community by mobilizing people and maximizing resources to advance opportunities and equity for all. MUW brings together businesses, nonprofits, government agencies, foundations, and individuals to engage in the kinds of collaboration that changes lives. With this support, we are uniquely positioned to make a significant, lasting impact in our fight for the education, financial independence, and health of every person in the seven-county region we serve.
For more than one hundred years, MUW has united and empowered communities by investing in the full potential of individuals and families to ensure positive, sustainable change. We use data-driven insights to identify our community’s greatest needs and address systemic challenges with a focus on advancing equity and sharing opportunities for all. Together, we fight to improve the disparities that persist in early care and education, economic mobility, home ownership, racial equity, and public policy in Jefferson, Bullitt, Oldham and Shelby counties in Kentucky and Clark, Floyd, and Harrison counties in Indiana.
MUW has undergone a major shift with its impact model, focusing on three distinct pillars: Thriving Kids, Strong Households, and Equitable Community. Building on its core strength of mobilizing the caring power of communities, MUW has re-imagined the civic engagement and impact it can have in the region. However, we continue to unite community partners around critical programs and initiatives tailored to meet the specific needs of each community. These include programs and initiatives in early childhood development, economic empowerment & mobility, policy advocacy to support systemic reform, workforce development, homelessness prevention, mentoring and facilitation of neighborhood networking. In 2020, MUW received a one-time gift of $20 million from activist and philanthropist MacKenzie Scott, which was a testament to its continuous investment in programs and services that combat racial and social injustice.
There is no single solution, and we strongly believe that the key to social change is working together beyond individual efforts to impact widespread progress. That is why our approach is so effective - we are on the ground, leading collective action that drives results at scale.

Target companies with existing partnership functions
Employers who already have a partnerships team are far more likely to sponsor. They understand the role's value and have often navigated visa sponsorship before, making the process faster and less uncertain for you.
Frame your degree as integral to the role
H-1B eligibility requires a specialty occupation tied to a specific degree field. Business, marketing, or communications degrees strengthen your case significantly. Be ready to show your employer how your education directly informs your partnerships strategy.
Build a track record of revenue-generating partnerships
Quantified results, such as partnerships that drove measurable pipeline or revenue, make sponsorship easier to justify internally. Employers are more willing to invest in visa costs when the hire has a clear, demonstrable impact on the business.
Ask about sponsorship before the final interview round
Raise the sponsorship question early but after initial interest is established. Waiting until an offer is extended wastes both parties' time if the employer has a blanket policy against sponsoring, which some smaller companies do.
Consider O-1A if you have exceptional achievements
Directors with industry awards, speaking credits, published work, or roles leading high-profile partnerships may qualify for the O-1A visa. It bypasses the H-1B lottery entirely and can be sponsored by a single employer without PERM labor certification.
L-1A is an option if you're transferring within a multinational
If your current employer has U.S. operations and you've worked for them abroad for at least one year in a managerial capacity, an intracompany transfer via L-1A is often the fastest path to a Director-level role in the U.S.
Frequently Asked Questions
Does a Director of Partnerships role qualify for H-1B sponsorship?
Yes, but qualification depends on how the role is defined. The H-1B visa requires a specialty occupation, meaning the position normally requires at least a bachelor's degree in a specific field. A Director of Partnerships tied to a business, marketing, or communications degree generally qualifies. Roles where the employer accepts any degree regardless of field are harder to support.
Which visa types commonly sponsor Director of Partnerships positions?
H-1B is the most common path. O-1A applies if you have a strong record of industry recognition, board memberships, or high-profile deal credits. L-1A works for intracompany transfers from a foreign affiliate into a U.S. managerial role. E-3 visa is available to Australian citizens in qualifying specialty occupations. The right visa depends on your background, employer structure, and timeline.
Do I need a specific degree to get sponsored as a Director of Partnerships?
For H-1B sponsorship, your degree should align with the role's core function. Business administration, marketing, communications, or a related field typically satisfies the specialty occupation requirement. An MBA strengthens your case considerably. If your degree is in an unrelated field, relevant work experience can sometimes bridge the gap, though it complicates the petition and requires additional documentation.
How hard is it for employers to sponsor a Director of Partnerships for an H-1B?
The main barrier is the annual H-1B lottery, which selects roughly 25 to 30 percent of registrations in a typical year. The employer covers filing fees and legal costs, which can deter smaller companies. Cap-exempt employers like nonprofits and universities bypass the lottery entirely. If you have a master's degree from a U.S. institution, you get entered in a separate pool that historically has higher selection odds.
Where can I find Director of Partnerships jobs that offer visa sponsorship?
Migrate Mate is built specifically for this search. Every role on the platform is filtered for visa sponsorship eligibility, so you're not wading through listings where sponsorship is unavailable. You can browse Director of Partnerships roles by visa type, industry, and company size, which is particularly useful if you're targeting cap-exempt employers or companies with a history of H-1B filings.
What is the prevailing wage requirement for sponsored Director Of Partnerships jobs?
U.S. employers sponsoring a visa must pay at least the prevailing wage, which is what workers in the same role, area, and experience level typically earn. The Department of Labor sets this rate to make sure companies aren't hiring foreign workers simply because they'd accept lower pay than a U.S. worker. It varies by job title, location, and experience. You can look up current prevailing wage rates for any occupation and location using the OFLC Wage Search page.
