Get Access To All JobsTips for Finding Visa Sponsorship as an Ios Software Engineer
Lead with your tech stack, not just your title
Employers sponsoring iOS engineers want specifics: Swift, SwiftUI, UIKit, Xcode proficiency. Listing these prominently signals you're a genuine specialist, which directly supports the specialty occupation argument USCIS evaluates during H-1B adjudication.
Target companies with an established H-1B track record
Large tech firms and funded startups file H-1B petitions regularly and have legal infrastructure in place. Companies sponsoring for the first time face longer timelines and higher scrutiny, so prior sponsorship history matters when evaluating opportunities.
A computer science or related degree strengthens your petition
USCIS expects a direct relationship between your degree field and the role. A bachelor's in computer science, software engineering, or electrical engineering is the clearest fit. Unrelated degrees require additional evidence and can complicate approval.
Cap-exempt employers can bypass the lottery entirely
Universities, nonprofit research institutions, and certain government entities are cap-exempt, meaning they can file H-1B petitions year-round without lottery exposure. iOS roles at these organizations are rare but worth pursuing if lottery timing is a concern.
Experienced iOS engineers have a stronger case for O-1 consideration
If you've shipped high-profile apps, led engineering teams, or published technical work, the O-1A visa is worth exploring. It has no lottery and no annual cap, though the evidentiary bar for extraordinary ability is significantly higher than H-1B.

Find Ios Software Engineer JobsFrequently Asked Questions
Is iOS Software Engineer a qualifying specialty occupation for the H-1B?
Yes. iOS Software Engineer is one of the more straightforward specialty occupation approvals. USCIS consistently recognizes software development roles as requiring at minimum a bachelor's degree in computer science, software engineering, or a closely related field. The key is that your employer's job description must reflect degree-level complexity, not general programming tasks any bootcamp graduate could perform.
Do I need a computer science degree specifically, or will other degrees qualify?
A computer science, software engineering, or electrical engineering degree is the cleanest path. Other STEM degrees can qualify if your coursework is closely related to iOS development. If your degree is in an unrelated field, your employer will need to submit additional evidence, and USCIS may issue a Request for Evidence challenging the specialty occupation claim.
How competitive is H-1B sponsorship for iOS engineers compared to other tech roles?
iOS engineers face the same lottery odds as other H-1B applicants, roughly 25% in recent fiscal years. However, employers filing for iOS roles generally have less difficulty with the underlying petition approval compared to more ambiguous roles. The specialty occupation argument is well-supported by industry standards and DOL data showing consistent degree requirements for this job title.
Where can I find iOS Software Engineer jobs that offer visa sponsorship?
Migrate Mate is built specifically for international candidates looking for visa-sponsored tech roles in the U.S. You can filter by role and sponsorship willingness, which saves significant time compared to applying broadly and asking about sponsorship after the fact. Most employers listing on Migrate Mate have sponsored before and are open to doing it again.
Can I switch from OPT or STEM OPT to an H-1B as an iOS engineer without losing work authorization?
Yes, through the cap-gap provision. If your employer files your H-1B petition before your OPT expires, your work authorization is automatically extended through September 30 of that year, even if your OPT end date is earlier. You must have a timely filed petition and a valid EAD to benefit from cap-gap protection. Confirm your employer files on time, as missed deadlines can cause a gap.
What is the prevailing wage requirement for sponsored Ios Software Engineer jobs?
U.S. employers sponsoring a visa must pay at least the prevailing wage, which is what workers in the same role, area, and experience level typically earn. The Department of Labor sets this rate to make sure companies aren't hiring foreign workers simply because they'd accept lower pay than a U.S. worker. It varies by job title, location, and experience. You can look up current prevailing wage rates for any occupation and location using the OFLC Wage Search page.
