Analytics Consultant Jobs in Illinois: Frequently Asked Questions
How do you become a analytics consultant in Illinois?
Analytics consulting in Illinois has no state-issued license, so the path runs through education and demonstrated skills. Most Illinois employers expect at least a bachelor's degree in a quantitative field such as statistics, computer science, or business analytics, with a master's degree preferred at larger firms. Building a portfolio of data projects, earning certifications in tools like Tableau or Google Analytics, and targeting analyst associate programs at Chicago-area consulting and financial services firms are the most practical steps.
How much do analytics consultants make in Illinois?
Analytics consultants in Illinois earn a median of about $106,560 a year, based on May 2025 Bureau of Labor Statistics wage data, ranging from around $68,810 for the lowest 10% to over $168,880 for the top 10%. Pay rises with experience, specialty, and employer.
Which companies hire analytics consultants in Illinois?
Employers hiring analytics consultants in Illinois right now include ZS Associates, VIVA, and Vistex, based on current listings on Migrate Mate as of September 2026. Illinois's deep concentration of Fortune 500 headquarters and major consulting practices in the Chicago metro makes it one of the more consistent states for ongoing analytics hiring year-round.
Which Illinois cities have the most analytics consultant jobs?
Chicago, Evanston, and Hoffman Estates have the most analytics consultant openings in Illinois. Chicago dominates due to its concentration of management consulting firms, financial institutions, and healthcare systems, while Naperville and Schaumburg draw hiring from corporate headquarters and regional technology centers clustered in the western suburbs.
Are there remote analytics consultant jobs in Illinois?
Yes, and more than most fields. About 91% of analytics consultant openings tied to Illinois are remote or hybrid as of September 2026, reflecting the desk-based, software-driven nature of the work. Strategy and reporting functions are the most likely to be fully remote, while client-facing engagements at consulting firms typically require at least some in-person presence in Chicago.
How can I get hired as a analytics consultant in Illinois with little or no experience?
The most realistic entry path is through associate analyst or junior consultant roles at Chicago-area firms that run structured development programs, including Deloitte's analyst cohort and Accenture's entry-level consulting tracks. Lateral moves from roles like data analyst, business analyst, or financial analyst are common at mid-size Illinois companies. A portfolio showing real data projects, along with a certification in a tool like Power BI or Python, gives candidates a measurable edge over applicants with no credentials beyond a degree.
