Analytics Director Jobs in California: Frequently Asked Questions
How do you become a analytics director in California?
Most analytics directors in California follow a path that starts with a bachelor's degree in a quantitative field such as statistics, mathematics, or computer science, often supplemented by a master's in data science or business analytics. From there, candidates build experience as analysts or data scientists before moving into management. California employers, especially in tech and healthcare, respond well to candidates who combine hands-on technical skills with demonstrated team leadership and a record of driving business decisions through data.
How much do analytics directors make in California?
Analytics directors in California earn a median of about $141,590 a year, based on May 2025 Bureau of Labor Statistics wage data, ranging from around $77,480 for the lowest 10% to over $224,920 for the top 10%. Pay rises with experience, specialty, and employer.
Which companies hire analytics directors in California?
Employers hiring analytics directors in California right now include Revolution Medicines, Adobe, and Alvarez & Marsal, based on current listings on Migrate Mate as of June 2026. California's concentration of technology headquarters, major entertainment studios, and large integrated health systems means demand is distributed across multiple high-profile industries rather than a single sector.
Which California cities have the most analytics director jobs?
San Francisco, Los Angeles, and Redwood City have the most analytics director openings in California. The San Francisco Bay Area leads because of its density of technology and financial services headquarters, while Los Angeles draws heavily from entertainment, media, and e-commerce companies, and San Diego's strong biotech and life sciences cluster generates consistent demand for analytics leadership.
Are there remote analytics director jobs in California?
Yes, and more than most fields. About 23% of analytics director openings tied to California are remote or hybrid as of June 2026, reflecting the desk-based and collaborative nature of the work. Strategic planning, reporting, and team management functions tend to be the most amenable to fully remote arrangements, while roles requiring close collaboration with product or engineering teams more often follow a hybrid model.
How can I get hired as a analytics director in California with little or no experience?
The most realistic entry path is moving into a senior individual-contributor analytics role first, such as a lead analyst or analytics manager, and building toward director-level responsibility from there. California's large technology companies and health systems like UC Health and Dignity Health often post rotational or associate leadership programs that develop junior managers. Building a portfolio of end-to-end projects, earning a recognized certification in a platform like Tableau or Google Cloud, and gaining experience presenting findings to non-technical stakeholders will accelerate the move into director-level hiring pools.
Where can I find and apply to analytics director jobs in California?
You can find and apply to analytics director jobs in California on Migrate Mate, which lists current California openings. Find roles that fit your background and apply directly to the ones that match.
