Chief Financial Officer Jobs in Tennessee: Frequently Asked Questions
How do you become a chief financial officer in Tennessee?
Most chief financial officers in Tennessee follow a path that begins with a bachelor's degree in accounting, finance, or business, followed by earning CPA licensure through the Tennessee State Board of Accountancy. From there, candidates typically progress through controller, VP of Finance, or CFO roles at smaller organizations before reaching enterprise-level positions. An MBA from a Tennessee institution such as Vanderbilt's Owen Graduate School of Management strengthens candidacy significantly for mid-market and public company roles.
Which companies hire chief financial officers in Tennessee?
Companies currently hiring chief financial officers in Tennessee include Mars, Oracle, and Permobil, per current listings on Migrate Mate as of September 2026. Tennessee's concentration of healthcare systems, logistics companies, and regional manufacturers means demand for senior finance leadership remains steady well beyond the largest public corporations.
Which Tennessee cities have the most chief financial officer jobs?
Nashville, Memphis, and Franklin account for the largest share of chief financial officer openings in Tennessee. Nashville leads because of its dense concentration of healthcare headquarters, corporate finance functions, and private equity-backed companies, while Memphis draws demand from logistics and distribution employers, and Knoxville reflects hiring from manufacturing and University of Tennessee-affiliated institutions.
Are there remote chief financial officer jobs in Tennessee?
Yes, and more than most senior roles, because chief financial officer work centers on analysis, reporting, and strategic planning rather than on-site operations. About 57% of chief financial officer openings tied to Tennessee are remote or hybrid as of September 2026, making it one of the more flexible executive-level positions available. Strategic finance, FP&A oversight, and investor relations functions tend to offer the most location flexibility.
How can I get hired as a chief financial officer in Tennessee with little or no experience?
The most realistic entry path is through a staff or senior accountant role at a Tennessee healthcare system, regional bank, or manufacturer, then moving into a controller or director of finance position. Large Tennessee employers including HCA Healthcare and regional community banks run structured finance rotational or leadership development programs for candidates without executive experience. Earning CPA licensure through the Tennessee State Board of Accountancy and building hands-on experience with ERP systems accelerates promotion into CFO-track roles at growing mid-market companies.
