Communications Jobs in Utah: Frequently Asked Questions
How do you become a communications professional in Utah?
Most Utah employers require a bachelor's degree in communications, public relations, journalism, or a closely related field. No state-issued license is required for communications roles in Utah. Candidates typically build a portfolio of writing samples, campaign work, or media placements, and many enter through internships at Utah universities or local media organizations before moving into full-time positions with corporate, government, or nonprofit employers.
Which companies hire communications professionals in Utah?
Companies currently hiring communications professionals in Utah include University of Utah, BHI, and Northrop Grumman, per current listings on Migrate Mate as of September 2026. Utah's mix of major tech companies, large healthcare systems, and well-funded universities means communications openings appear across a wide range of industries and organization sizes.
Which Utah cities have the most communications jobs?
The cities with the most communications openings in Utah are Salt Lake City, Roy, and South Jordan. Salt Lake City dominates because it is home to the state's largest corporate headquarters, government agencies, and hospital systems, while Provo's concentration of tech companies and universities anchors demand along the Wasatch Front, and other areas reflect the presence of regional employers and growing business districts.
Are there remote communications jobs in Utah?
Yes, and more than most fields. About 70% of communications openings tied to Utah are remote or hybrid as of September 2026, reflecting how much of the work centers on writing, editing, and digital content that can be done from anywhere. Roles focused on media relations, content strategy, and social media management are the most commonly offered on a remote or hybrid basis.
How can I get hired as a communications professional in Utah with little or no experience?
The most realistic entry path is a student internship or a coordinator role at a Utah university communications office, state agency, or nonprofit, where hiring standards are well-suited to candidates building their first portfolio. Intermountain Health, the University of Utah, and Utah Valley University regularly bring on entry-level communications assistants and marketing coordinators. Lateral moves from customer service, journalism, or administrative roles are common, and a polished writing portfolio with two or three strong samples gives candidates a clear edge over those with coursework alone.
Where can I find and apply to communications jobs in Utah?
You can find and apply to communications jobs in Utah on Migrate Mate, which lists current Utah openings updated in real time. Search the available roles, identify the ones that match your experience and location, and apply directly through each listing without creating an account or signing up.
