Verify Your Credential Equivalency Before Applying
State licensure boards require foreign-trained therapists to have credentials evaluated before they can sit for the NBCOT or equivalent exam. Complete this evaluation early because Encompass Health's hiring process moves to the offer stage quickly and delays here can stall your start date.
Target Encompass Health's Inpatient Rehabilitation Facilities
Encompass Health operates a large network of inpatient rehabilitation hospitals with persistent therapy staffing needs. Filtering your search by IRF-designated facilities surfaces the highest-volume hiring locations, where sponsorship decisions are made faster due to recurring workforce demand.
Clarify Visa Type During the Offer Stage
Encompass Health has sponsored candidates under both employment-based Green Card categories and temporary nonimmigrant pathways. Ask the recruiter directly which visa category applies to your role so you can confirm whether a PERM labor certification or a nonimmigrant petition is the expected route.
Understand OPT STEM Extension Limitations for Therapy Roles
Physical, occupational, and speech therapy programs are typically not classified as STEM fields, so F-1 OPT holders are limited to the standard 12-month work authorization period. Factor this timeline into your negotiation when accepting an offer, and discuss transition to employer-sponsored status with your hiring manager before OPT expires.
Use Migrate Mate to Identify Verified Sponsoring Locations
Not every Encompass Health facility sponsors visa candidates at the same rate. Use Migrate Mate to browse verified Therapist openings at Encompass Health filtered by sponsorship eligibility, so you're targeting locations that have actually filed for international candidates rather than applying broadly.
Align Your Job Duties Description With DOL PERM Requirements
If Encompass Health pursues a PERM-based Green Card for your role, the DOL requires that your actual job duties match the certified position description precisely. Review the offer letter's duties language carefully and flag any discrepancies to your employer's immigration counsel before filing begins.
Frequently Asked Questions
Does Encompass Health sponsor H-1B visas for Therapists?
Encompass Health's sponsorship activity for Therapist roles has focused primarily on employment-based Green Card pathways, including EB-2 and EB-3 categories, alongside support for F-1 OPT, CPT, TN visa, and J-1 visa status holders. H-1B visa sponsorship for therapy roles is less common in the rehabilitation hospital sector because most therapy positions are classified under specialty occupation frameworks that facilities handle differently. Confirm the specific visa pathway with the recruiter at the facility you're targeting.
Which visa types are commonly used for Therapist roles at Encompass Health?
Encompass Health has sponsored Therapists under EB-2 and EB-3 employment-based Green Card categories, which require a PERM labor certification filed with the DOL. The company also hires therapists on F-1 OPT and CPT, J-1 exchange visitor status, and TN visas for Canadian and Mexican nationals. TN is particularly straightforward for physical and occupational therapists because both professions are listed as qualifying TN categories under the USMCA.
How do I apply for Therapist jobs at Encompass Health?
You can browse and apply for Therapist positions at Encompass Health through Migrate Mate, which filters openings by visa sponsorship eligibility so you only see roles where international candidates are considered. When applying, tailor your resume to highlight your state licensure status, clinical specialty, and any inpatient rehabilitation experience, as Encompass Health's IRF facilities prioritize candidates with acute or post-acute care backgrounds. Follow up with the recruiter to confirm sponsorship availability before completing the full application process.
What qualifications does Encompass Health expect for sponsored Therapist roles?
Encompass Health expects Therapist candidates to hold a relevant degree from an accredited program, an active or eligible state license in the jurisdiction where the facility operates, and clinical experience in a rehabilitation or acute care setting. For foreign-trained applicants, credential evaluation through a body recognized by your state licensure board is required before licensure can be granted. Specialty certifications in neurological or orthopedic rehabilitation can strengthen your candidacy at inpatient facilities.
How do I estimate the timeline from job offer to starting work at Encompass Health on a sponsored visa?
Timeline depends heavily on the visa pathway. TN status for Canadian nationals can be obtained at a port of entry the same day an offer letter and supporting documents are ready. EB-3 Green Card sponsorship involving PERM typically takes 12 to 24 months for labor certification alone before USCIS adjudicates the I-140 petition. If you're on F-1 OPT, confirm your OPT expiration date against each stage of the hiring process so your authorization remains valid through your start date.
