Verify Your Licensure Before Applying
Pennsylvania requires a state license to practice as a therapist, and WellSpan will expect you to have one or be eligible to obtain it. Confirm your foreign credentials have been evaluated by a NACES-approved body before submitting applications.
Target WellSpan's Behavioral Health Openings
WellSpan consistently posts therapist roles across its behavioral health network, including outpatient and inpatient settings. Filtering specifically for behavioral health and rehabilitation postings increases your chances of landing a role that fits the specialty occupation standard H-1B requires.
Understand WellSpan's PERM Sponsorship Timeline
If you're targeting a Green Card through EB-2 or EB-3, PERM labor certification adds 12 to 18 months before USCIS even begins adjudicating your petition. Start this conversation with your hiring manager during the offer negotiation stage, not after onboarding.
Clarify OPT or CPT Authorization With HR Early
WellSpan accepts F-1 OPT and CPT, but healthcare settings have strict supervision requirements that interact with your training authorization. Confirm your OPT work authorization aligns with the role's clinical supervision structure before your start date to avoid compliance issues.
Use Migrate Mate to Find Open Therapist Roles
Identifying which WellSpan postings are actively open to sponsored candidates takes time. Use Migrate Mate to filter therapist jobs at WellSpan Health by visa type, so you're only spending energy on roles where sponsorship is genuinely on the table.
Negotiate Visa Filing Timing Around H-1B Cap Dates
H-1B cap filings open each April 1 for an October 1 start. If WellSpan extends an offer outside that window, ask whether a cap-exempt arrangement through an affiliated hospital or academic medical center is possible to avoid a year-long wait.
Frequently Asked Questions
Does WellSpan Health sponsor H-1B visas for Therapists?
Yes, WellSpan Health sponsors H-1B visas for Therapist roles. To qualify, the position must meet USCIS's specialty occupation standard, which requires a bachelor's degree or higher in a directly related field. Clinical therapy roles in behavioral health and rehabilitation typically satisfy this requirement, but confirm the specific role's job description aligns before applying.
How do I apply for Therapist jobs at WellSpan Health?
You can apply directly through WellSpan Health's careers portal. Before applying, use Migrate Mate to identify which open Therapist postings at WellSpan are listed as open to visa sponsorship, so you can prioritize roles where your immigration status won't be a barrier. Tailor your application to WellSpan's behavioral health and rehabilitation service lines for the strongest fit.
Which visa types does WellSpan Health commonly use for Therapist roles?
WellSpan sponsors Therapist roles through H-1B, TN visa (for Canadian and Mexican nationals), J-1 visa for clinical training programs, and F-1 OPT and CPT for recent graduates. For longer-term permanent residence, WellSpan has supported EB-2 and EB-3 Green Card pathways, which involve PERM labor certification filed through the Department of Labor before USCIS adjudication.
What qualifications does WellSpan Health expect from Therapist candidates?
WellSpan typically requires a master's degree in counseling, social work, psychology, or a related clinical field, along with Pennsylvania state licensure or eligibility for it. For international candidates, a credential evaluation from a NACES-approved organization is generally needed to confirm your foreign degree meets U.S. equivalency standards. Clinical supervised hours are also required for most licensed positions.
How long does the visa sponsorship process take for a Therapist position at WellSpan?
H-1B processing through USCIS runs three to six months with standard processing, or two to three weeks with premium processing. If you're pursuing a Green Card through EB-2 or EB-3, expect 12 to 18 months for PERM alone before the I-140 petition stage begins. TN status for Canadian nationals can be obtained at the border on the day of travel, making it a faster path for eligible candidates.
