Tips for Finding Engineering Jobs at FTI
Align your credentials to consulting deliverables
FTI engineers are hired to produce defensible technical analysis, not just execute tasks. Frame your resume around quantified project outcomes and client-facing work. Consulting-specific language signals cultural fit before the first interview.
Confirm your degree field matches the posting
FTI's engineering roles typically require a degree in a directly related field under the specialty occupation standard. A general science degree supporting a highly specialized engineering role can draw USCIS scrutiny, so verify the degree-to-role alignment before applying.
Target roles that match your current visa category
FTI sponsors across several categories including H-1B, E-3, TN, and F-1 OPT. Applying for roles that align with your current status shortens the hiring timeline and reduces employer friction around filing complexity or cap registration deadlines.
Browse open FTI engineering roles on Migrate Mate
FTI posts engineering positions across multiple practice areas and locations. Use Migrate Mate to filter specifically for FTI roles compatible with your visa type, so you're only spending time on positions where sponsorship is a realistic outcome.
Raise sponsorship early in the recruiter screen
Consulting firms move fast and often screen out sponsorship needs late in the process. Confirming FTI's willingness to sponsor your specific visa category in the first recruiter call prevents wasted rounds and avoids surprises at the offer stage.
Understand the LCA timeline before accepting an offer
Your employer must file a certified Labor Condition Application with DOL before your visa petition can be submitted. Build at least two weeks of LCA processing time into your expected start date when negotiating with FTI's HR team.
Frequently Asked Questions
Does FTI sponsor H-1B visas for Engineers?
Yes, FTI sponsors H-1B visas for engineering roles. Because the H-1B is subject to an annual cap and lottery, timing matters. FTI would need to submit your registration in March for an October 1 start date. Engineers already in H-1B status transferring from another employer are cap-exempt and can start sooner.
How do I apply for Engineering jobs at FTI?
Applications go through FTI's careers portal, where engineering roles are listed by practice area and location. Migrate Mate is the most direct way to surface FTI engineering positions filtered by visa compatibility. Once you identify a relevant role, apply directly and disclose your work authorization status early in the recruiter screen to avoid late-stage complications.
Which visa types does FTI commonly use for Engineering roles?
FTI sponsors a broad range of visa categories for engineering hires, including H-1B, H-1B1 visa, E-3 visa, TN visa, F-1 OPT, F-1 CPT, J-1 visa, and Green Card pathways through EB-2 and EB-3. The right category depends on your nationality, degree level, and career stage. Australian citizens can use the E-3 visa, which has no lottery and a faster timeline than the H-1B.
What qualifications does FTI expect for Engineering roles?
FTI's engineering practice is advisory-focused, so technical expertise alone isn't enough. Roles typically require a relevant bachelor's or advanced degree in engineering or a closely related field, combined with demonstrable experience producing technical analysis, reports, or client deliverables. Prior consulting experience or industry-specific credentials strengthen applications for senior-level positions significantly.
How do I plan my timeline if FTI offers me an Engineering role with H-1B sponsorship?
If you're not already in H-1B status, FTI must register you in the annual lottery, which opens in March. Selection results come in April, and the earliest start date is October 1. Factor in DOL Labor Condition Application certification (typically one to two weeks) and USCIS petition processing before your employment can legally begin.
