Overview
Intuit's Consumer Group (CG) AI is in the business of creating impactful, intelligent experiences that save time and money for our customers. Our work spans two deeply connected fronts: agent-powered experiences that reason, plan, and act on complex user challenges, and the in-product recommendation and personalization systems that surface the right guidance, products, and next-best-actions to millions of customers at exactly the right moment.
We are looking for a technical leader who is equally at home architecting agent systems and building production recommendation systems grounded in strong classical ML foundations — ranking, retrieval, candidate generation, uplift modeling, and bandits — to drive measurable customer and business outcomes.
If you like designing and deploying ML systems that meaningfully change what customers see and do inside a product — and want to push the frontier on agentic AI at the same time — come, join us.
In this high-impact role, you will be a key technical leader in architecting and delivering both next-generation Agentic AI solutions and the in-product recommendation systems that ensure our customers experience more money, less work, and complete confidence.
Responsibilities
- Drive the initiation and design of complex recommendation and agent model solutions. Lead the end-to-end architecture and implementation of the team's work, ensuring accountability for high-quality code, robust design, cost efficiency, and implementation standards.
- Design, build, and deploy in-product recommendation and personalization systems at scale — including candidate generation, learning-to-rank, retrieval, and ranking architectures — that directly drive customer engagement and business metrics.
- Apply both classical and cutting-edge techniques — including recommendation and ranking systems, gradient-boosted trees, collaborative filtering, embeddings, Causal-ML and uplift modeling, multi-armed bandits, Reinforcement Learning, Online Learning, and Deep Learning — to design and train robust, self-improving systems on large, real-world datasets.
- Practice strong leadership and communication skills to influence teams and evangelize the impact of recommendation systems and Agentic AI across the broader organization.
- Partner closely with Product Managers, Software Engineers, and Designers to define problem statements, success criteria, align model metrics with core business goals, and ensure successful delivery and integration of complex ML solutions into the product.
- Work independently and proactively in a fast-paced environment. Quickly research, explore, and enable new ML, recommendation, and Agentic technologies, staying current with developments in academia and industry to solve Intuit customer problems.
- Develop efficient techniques for designing, evaluating, and continuously improving recommendation and agentic systems through offline and online (A/B, interleaving, bandit) experimentation.
Qualifications
- 8+ years of industry experience with AI science and machine learning.
- BS, MS, or PhD in Statistics, Mathematics, Computer Science, Economics, Operations Research, or equivalent.
- 7+ years of hands-on expertise across core and advanced ML paradigms, including recommendation systems, ranking/retrieval, and classical ML (e.g., gradient boosting, logistic regression, collaborative filtering, feature engineering), as well as Causal-ML, Reinforcement Learning, Online Learning, and Deep Learning.
- Proven experience building and shipping in-product recommendation or personalization systems in production, with demonstrable customer or business impact.
- Have extensive prior experience building end-to-end, reusable data and model pipelines — from data acquisition through to complex model/agent output delivery — in a production environment.
- Strong business acumen to understand end-to-end impact.
Additional preferred skills/experience:
- Experience designing large-scale recommendation systems with two-stage (candidate generation + ranking) architectures and online experimentation
- Experience with multi-armed bandits, contextual bandits, or uplift modeling for in-product decisioning
- Experience developing and evaluating complex agentic AI systems
- Experience orchestrating multi-agent systems
- Authored papers in top conferences and journals on Recommendation Systems, Reinforcement Learning, or Deep Learning

Align your research portfolio to Intuit's domains
Intuit Scientist roles center on tax, personal finance, and small business data. Frame your CV around applied research in these areas, quantifying outcomes in consumer behavior, predictive modeling, or NLP, so hiring managers immediately see domain fit.
Target roles that match your exact visa category
Intuit sponsors multiple visa types for Scientist positions, including H-1B, E-3, TN, and F-1 OPT. Filter your search by the category your status requires before applying, since the filing pathway and timeline differ significantly across categories.
Start your OPT application timeline early
If you're relying on F-1 OPT to start at Intuit, USCIS recommends filing up to 90 days before your program end date. A delayed EAD can push back your start date, so coordinate your application window with Intuit's offer timeline, not your graduation ceremony.
Ask hiring managers about internal transfer pathways
Intuit operates large international offices, which makes L-1 visa and internal transfer routes realistic for some Scientist candidates. During later interview stages, ask directly whether the role could support an intracompany transfer if your current situation fits that profile.
Prepare for a PERM-backed green card conversation at offer stage
Intuit sponsors EB-2 and EB-3 green cards for Scientist roles, which typically requires a PERM labor certification from DOL. Ask at the offer stage whether the role is designated for permanent sponsorship and what the standard timeline looks like for this position level.
Use Migrate Mate to surface Intuit Scientist openings by visa type
Scientist roles at Intuit open and close quickly across research, data science, and analytics functions. Use Migrate Mate to filter live Intuit openings by your specific visa category so you're applying to roles where sponsorship is already confirmed, not guessing from a generic job listing.
Frequently Asked Questions
Does Intuit sponsor H-1B visas for Scientists?
Yes, Intuit sponsors H-1B visas for Scientist roles. Intuit is a well-established H-1B petitioner, which means it files petitions regularly for technical and research positions. If you're subject to the H-1B cap, your start date will depend on the April lottery and an October 1 start. Cap-exempt scenarios, such as transfers from a cap-exempt employer, follow a different timeline.
How do I apply for Scientist jobs at Intuit?
Apply directly through Intuit's careers portal after identifying a role that matches your research background and visa category. Tailor your application to the specific Scientist function, whether that's data science, behavioral research, or applied AI, since Intuit's recruiting teams are specialized by product area. Migrate Mate lets you filter current Intuit Scientist openings by visa type before you apply, so you can confirm sponsorship eligibility upfront.
Which visa types does Intuit commonly use for Scientist roles?
Intuit sponsors a broad range of visa categories for Scientist positions, including H-1B, E-3 visa (for Australian citizens), TN visa (for Canadian and Mexican nationals), F-1 OPT and CPT, J-1 visa, and Green Card pathways through EB-2 and EB-3. The right category depends on your nationality, degree level, and where you are in the hiring process. Confirming which categories apply to a specific role early in the process saves significant time.
What qualifications does Intuit expect for Scientist roles?
Most Scientist roles at Intuit require at least a master's degree in a quantitative field, such as statistics, computer science, economics, or a related discipline. PhD holders are competitive for senior research positions. Practical experience with large-scale data systems, experimentation frameworks, or consumer behavior modeling is weighted heavily. Intuit's research agenda connects closely to its core products, so applied work in fintech or consumer technology contexts stands out.
How do I think about timing when targeting Intuit for H-1B sponsorship?
If you need an H-1B cap filing, target Intuit applications in the December to February window so an offer can be secured before the April 1 registration period. USCIS typically opens H-1B registration in March, and employers must have confirmed candidates before filing. Premium processing, currently available for H-1B petitions, can shorten USCIS adjudication to around 15 business days if your start date is time-sensitive.
