What You’ll Do
- Develop application software for electronic control of mobile and off-highway machines
- Serve as a hands-on technical leader for software and controls projects while continuing to write and troubleshoot code
- Help guide team members, review technical approaches, and support the execution of complex controls projects
- Drive improvements to software development processes, coding practices, testing, requirements, and documentation
- Program using CODESYS, Structured Text, C/C++, MATLAB/Simulink, or similar controls environments
- Integrate controllers, HMIs, displays, sensors, CAN networks, hydraulics, and other machine systems
- Test, troubleshoot, and validate software in the lab and directly on vehicles
- Develop reusable function blocks and standardized controls solutions
- Work directly with OEM customers to understand machine requirements and develop customer-specific solutions
- Collaborate with hydraulic, electrical, mechanical, controls, and systems engineers on complete machine solutions
- Mentor and support engineers and technicians as the team's software and controls capabilities continue to grow
- Support customer commissioning and troubleshooting as needed
What We’re Looking For
- 5+ years of controls, machine controls, embedded controls, or related engineering experience preferred
- Strong hands-on programming experience with CODESYS, Structured Text, C/C++, MATLAB/Simulink, or similar controls environments
- Demonstrated ability to provide technical leadership, mentor team members, lead projects, or improve engineering processes
- Experience programming controllers used to control physical equipment or machinery
- Strong systems mindset with the ability to understand how software, electronics, controls, hydraulics, and the complete machine interact
- CANBus, J1939, Ethernet, HMI, sensors, or related machine communication experience preferred
- Mobile equipment, off-highway, hydraulics, electrohydraulics, or mechatronics experience strongly preferred
- Ability to translate customer requirements into practical controls and system solutions
- Strong customer-facing communication, troubleshooting, and cross-functional collaboration skills
- Associate degree in a technical discipline required; Bachelor’s degree preferred
- Ability to travel approximately 10%

Clarify who files your petition
At a staffing firm like Jobot, the end client employer sometimes files the H-1B petition rather than Jobot itself. Confirm early in the process whether Jobot or the client company will be the petitioning employer, as this affects your I-129 filing and LCA.
Align your resume to placed roles
Jobot fills Software Engineer positions across industries like healthcare, finance, and tech. Tailor your resume to the specific tech stack each job listing names, since recruiters match candidates to client requirements and generic resumes lose out to targeted ones.
Confirm E-Verify enrollment before accepting
F-1 OPT holders need their employer enrolled in E-Verify to qualify for the 24-month STEM OPT extension. Before signing any offer through Jobot, verify the end client's E-Verify status, since it is the worksite employer that must be enrolled, not just Jobot.
Time your application around H-1B cap deadlines
H-1B registrations open in March each year for an October 1 start date. If you are targeting a full-time Software Engineer role through Jobot, engage with their recruiters by January so there is enough lead time to prepare your petition before registration closes.
Use Migrate Mate to filter Jobot listings by visa type
Jobot posts Software Engineer roles across multiple visa categories, and not every listing supports the same sponsorship. Search Migrate Mate to filter Jobot jobs specifically by the visa type you hold or need, so you only spend time on roles that match your situation.
Request the LCA before your start date
Your employer must file a certified Labor Condition Application with DOL before USCIS can approve your H-1B petition. Ask Jobot or the client employer to share the LCA reference number once it is certified, so you can track that the prevailing wage and worksite details are correct.
Frequently Asked Questions
Does Jobot sponsor H-1B visas for Software Engineers?
Jobot does sponsor H-1B visas for Software Engineer roles, though the specifics depend on the individual placement. Because Jobot operates as a staffing intermediary, the petitioning employer may be Jobot or the end client company depending on how the role is structured. Confirm sponsorship arrangements directly with your Jobot recruiter before advancing through the interview process.
Which visa types are commonly used for Software Engineer roles at Jobot?
Jobot sponsors H-1B, F-1 OPT, and TN visas for Software Engineer positions. F-1 OPT candidates, including those eligible for the STEM OPT extension, are frequently placed in contract roles. TN visas apply to Canadian and Mexican citizens in qualifying software occupations. The right visa type for your placement depends on your citizenship, degree field, and whether the role is contract or permanent.
How do I apply for Software Engineer jobs at Jobot?
You can browse and apply for Software Engineer positions at Jobot directly through Migrate Mate, which filters Jobot listings by visa sponsorship type so you only see roles relevant to your status. Once you apply, a Jobot recruiter typically reaches out to screen your technical background and confirm sponsorship eligibility before submitting your profile to the end client for review.
What qualifications are expected for Software Engineer roles at Jobot?
Most Software Engineer placements through Jobot require a bachelor's degree in computer science, software engineering, or a closely related field. For H-1B purposes, your degree must align with the specific role, so a general business degree is unlikely to qualify. Practical experience with the tech stack listed in the job description carries significant weight, as Jobot matches candidates to client requirements where technical fit determines placement.
How do I manage the timing between a Jobot offer and my visa filing?
If you are on F-1 OPT, you can begin working for up to 90 days while your STEM OPT extension is pending with USCIS, provided your employer is E-Verify enrolled. For H-1B placements with an October 1 start date, USCIS allows cap-gap protection if your OPT expires while your petition is pending. Engage with Jobot recruiters early enough to leave at least several months before your current status expires.
