At Netflix, our mission is to entertain the world. Together, we are writing the next episode - pushing the boundaries of storytelling, global fandom and making the unimaginable a reality. We are a dream team obsessed with the uncomfortable excitement of discovering what happens when you merge creativity, intuition and cutting-edge technology. Come be a part of what’s next.
The Ads data engineering team builds centralized and large-scale datasets that support the overall goals of our Ads data initiatives, focusing on the creation of standardized, scalable datasets, frameworks, and integration mechanisms to enhance discoverability, accessibility, and usability for all stakeholders within the Ads organization. We deliver data as a product through defining core foundational data and providing reusable, consistent, and curated datasets that typically unify data from various systems and data producers, ensuring we account for any changes upstream, such as new ad products (e.g. what is pitched and sold to Netflix advertisers), event types, or integration channels, so our customers have the data they need to build solutions and make decisions.
We are looking for a stellar Data Engineering Manager who can lead a team of talented data engineers and oversee the Ads inventory and demand management (forecasting, simulation), pricing/packaging, media planning data, sales performance data, and sales workflow automation. This role is critical to building reliable, scalable systems that enable accurate inventory prediction, packaging, and sales operation excellence. Your leadership will ensure the creation of robust, scalable, and efficient data pipelines and platforms, enabling Netflix to deliver targeted and impactful advertising experiences to our members while maintaining a strong commitment to data privacy and security.
In this role, you will:
- Lead a team of strong engineers building high-scale, highly reliable data processing systems serving the Ads domain.
- Build a strong team vision and roadmap for the team.
- Effectively partner with a diverse group of stakeholders to enable healthy and impactful collaboration among teams.
- Offer direct, constructive feedback grounded in empathy. Help team members amplify their strengths and grow through their challenges. Be a thought partner in their career development.
- Monitor and proactively address any drain on the team's productivity and efficiency, ensuring the team can focus the majority of their efforts on innovation.
- Hire and grow a diverse, high-performing team of top-tier data engineering talent.
What we are seeking in an ideal candidate:
- You have 8+ years of experience in data engineering. You have strong programming (at least 1 major language) and SQL experience in your background.
- You have 3+ years of engineering leadership experience, preferably in the Ad tech domain.
- You see what’s ahead and advocate for smart investments, efficiency, innovation, and long-term value.
- You attract top talent and build inclusive, high-performing teams. You know great outcomes start with great people.
- You care about your team’s growth and well-being. You handle tough conversations with empathy and clarity.
- You have a strong engineering background and can guide teams to deliver great technical outcomes. A BS in Computer Science/Engineering or a related discipline.
- You have strong experience with distributed data processing technologies (i.e. Spark/Hadoop/flink, etc.)
Generally, our compensation structure consists solely of an annual salary; we do not have bonuses. You choose each year how much of your compensation you want in salary versus stock options. Align your credentials to Netflix's technical standards
Netflix Engineering Technician roles typically require hands-on experience with broadcast, AV, or network systems rather than a traditional four-year degree. Document certifications like SMPTE, CTS, or vendor-specific credentials before applying, since these carry real weight in the screening process.
Target Netflix's studio and production-heavy locations
Netflix concentrates its Engineering Technician hiring near its major production hubs in Los Angeles and New York. Focusing your application on postings tied to these locations increases your chances of landing a role where the infrastructure teams are actively staffed.
Distinguish your visa type early in the process
Netflix sponsors multiple visa categories for this function, including H-1B, E-3, TN, and F-1 OPT. Knowing which category applies to your nationality before your first recruiter screen lets you address sponsorship eligibility confidently rather than leaving it as an unresolved question.
Front-load your OPT timeline when targeting Netflix
If you're on F-1 OPT, USCIS's 60-day grace period leaves little buffer if a role falls through. Line up your Netflix application early enough that an offer and any required E-Verify verification can complete well before your OPT expiration date.
Use Migrate Mate to filter open Netflix roles by visa type
Identifying which Netflix Engineering Technician postings are actively open for sponsored candidates takes time without the right tools. Migrate Mate lets you filter Netflix's current openings by the visa types they sponsor, so you apply only where you're eligible.
Prepare for the PERM timeline if you're pursuing permanent residence
Netflix has a track record of supporting EB-2 and EB-3 Green Card pathways for technical staff, but the DOL PERM process can take well over a year from filing to certification. Raise your long-term sponsorship goals during the offer negotiation stage, not after you've already signed.
Frequently Asked Questions
Does Netflix sponsor H-1B visas for Engineering Technicians?
Yes, Netflix sponsors H-1B visas for Engineering Technician roles. The H-1B requires the position to qualify as a specialty occupation, so your application will be stronger if the role demands specialized technical knowledge in areas like broadcast engineering, network systems, or studio infrastructure. Netflix files petitions annually ahead of the USCIS H-1B cap lottery, so timing your offer accordingly matters.
How do I apply for Engineering Technician jobs at Netflix?
Applications go through Netflix's careers portal. Search for Engineering Technician or related titles like Broadcast Engineer or Studio Technician and filter by location, since most openings are concentrated near production hubs. Tailor your resume to highlight hands-on systems experience relevant to Netflix's content and studio infrastructure. You can also browse and filter current sponsored openings directly through Migrate Mate.
Which visa types does Netflix commonly use for Engineering Technician roles?
Netflix sponsors several visa categories for Engineering Technician positions, including H-1B, E-3 visa for Australian citizens, TN visa for Canadian and Mexican nationals, F-1 OPT and CPT for current students, and J-1 visa for exchange visitors. For candidates pursuing permanent residence, Netflix also supports EB-2 and EB-3 Green Card pathways. The right category depends on your nationality, education, and career stage.
What qualifications does Netflix expect for Engineering Technician roles?
Netflix typically looks for direct hands-on experience with broadcast, AV, or network systems rather than requiring a four-year degree in all cases. Industry certifications such as CTS, SMPTE credentials, or vendor-specific qualifications in networking or signal processing strengthen your profile. Familiarity with live production environments, post-production infrastructure, or large-scale content delivery systems is a practical differentiator at the screening stage.
How do I plan my timeline around Netflix's visa sponsorship process?
For H-1B candidates, USCIS's annual cap registration opens in March, so a late-year offer gives Netflix time to prepare your petition for the following cycle. F-1 OPT candidates should account for the E-Verify verification requirement under USCIS rules. For Green Card pathways through PERM, the DOL certification process can extend beyond 12 months, so it's worth surfacing that conversation during offer negotiations rather than after onboarding.
