Job Description
Senior Director of Software Engineering
Join one of the most consequential technology transformations in financial services. At JPMorganChase, you'll have the opportunity to lead a groundbreaking AI engineering program, shaping how the firm modernizes its most critical processing systems. This is a rare chance to build something new — with the resources, talent, and executive support to make it real.
Job Summary
As a Senior Director of Software Engineering at JPMorganChase within Wealth Management Technology, Consumer & Community Banking, you will define and deliver the AI toolchain that accelerates mainframe modernization across Credit, Money Market & Mutual Funds, Statements & Tax, and IBOR domains. You will embed directly with domain subject-matter experts and build agentic systems that ingest legacy code, job schedules, data flows, and production knowledge to produce structured specifications and accelerate migration delivery. This is a hands-on program leadership role: you own the roadmap, manage cross-team governance, and write code alongside your team. You are someone who sees GenAI not as a research exercise but as a practical engineering discipline, turning mainframe complexity into well-specified, verifiable, production-ready modern services. You thrive in ambiguity, move fast across technical and organizational boundaries, and have the credibility to influence domain leaders, architects, and senior leadership. You have deep proficiency using and extending coding agents and operate mission-critical platforms in production. You will build and manage an AI engineering squad, embed with domain subject-matter experts to capture legacy business logic, and architect multi-agent workflows for code ingestion, specification generation, and automated verification.
Job Responsibilities
- Design, build, and operate the end-to-end AI modernization pipeline, including artifact ingestion, specification generation, agent-driven code translation, and automated verification
- Own the strategic sequencing of migration across domains, establishing beachheads, proving the model, and scaling against business commitments and platform readiness
- Build and lead a high-performing AI engineering team, hiring, mentoring, and retaining AI engineers while setting engineering standards and fostering a builder culture
- Partner directly with mainframe subject-matter experts to validate specifications, challenge assumptions, and ensure migrated logic preserves business intent
- Design multi-agent systems for discovery, specification, code generation, and verification, implementing prompt engineering strategies, evaluation frameworks, and guardrails tuned for financial calculation accuracy
- Collaborate with architecture teams to define the target-state platform that all migrated calculations deploy into — deterministic, immutable, and constrained for agent-first development
- Create automated evaluation suites that measure migrated calculations against legacy outputs in simulated and lower environments
- Coordinate with technology leads, architecture teams, vendor partners, and senior leadership, presenting progress, trade-offs, and investment decisions to both technical and executive audiences
- Establish LLMOps practices for the AI toolchain, including deployment, monitoring, cost management, drift detection, and continuous improvement within firm compliance, model risk, and cybersecurity standards
Required Qualifications, Capabilities, And Skills
- Formal training or certification on software engineering concepts and 10+ years applied experience; in addition, 5+ years of experience leading technologists to manage, anticipate, and solve complex technical items within your domain of expertise
- Deep hands-on experience building production LLM-based applications, agentic architectures, RAG pipelines, and LLMOps for 24/7 systems
- Distributed systems experience in 24/7 environments, event-driven and batch architectures, API design, and modern cloud platforms (AWS/EKS/ECS/Kafka)
- Demonstrated ability to build and scale engineering teams, including hiring, developing, and retaining senior technical talent
- Expert proficiency with AI-assisted development tools as part of daily engineering workflow
- Excellent communication skills with the ability to translate between highly technical AI concepts and business stakeholder needs
- Experience designing and implementing multi-agent orchestration systems for complex, multi-step workflows
- Proven track record of delivering large-scale technology programs with measurable business outcomes
Preferred Qualifications, Capabilities, And Skills
- Experience in financial services, particularly wealth management, brokerage, or capital markets processing
- Master's degree in Computer Science or equivalent experience
- Familiarity with calculation engines, workflow orchestration, and event sourcing patterns
- Experience with JVM, Rust, PostgreSQL, and Kafka in production environments
- Background in program management for large-scale technology transformations
- Experience building evaluation and verification frameworks for code migration or translation systems

Align your credentials to JPMorganChase requirements
Engineering Technician roles at JPMorganChase often require documented proficiency in specific systems or certifications. Gather transcripts, technical certifications, and employment records before applying, since their HR and immigration teams move quickly once an offer is extended.
Target teams with recurring technical headcount
JPMorganChase hires Engineering Technicians across infrastructure, trading systems, and data center operations. Focus your applications on business lines with ongoing technical build-outs rather than one-off project roles, which are less likely to support multi-year sponsorship commitments.
Browse open roles through Migrate Mate
Filter for Engineering Technician positions at JPMorganChase by visa type using Migrate Mate, which surfaces roles from employers with active sponsorship histories. This lets you prioritize openings where sponsorship is already part of the hiring workflow, not an afterthought.
Clarify sponsorship scope during the offer stage
Ask the recruiter explicitly whether the role supports H-1B cap filing, cap-exempt transfer, or Green Card sponsorship through PERM. Large financial institutions like JPMorganChase have internal immigration counsel, so these questions are routine and expected.
Understand how E-3 fits JPMorganChase sponsorship
If you hold Australian citizenship, the E-3 visa skips the H-1B lottery entirely and can be filed directly with the DOL for a Labor Condition Application. JPMorganChase's immigration team is familiar with this pathway, so flag your citizenship early in conversations with HR.
Factor USCIS premium processing into your timeline
If your current status has a hard expiration, ask JPMorganChase's immigration team about premium processing, which guarantees a USCIS decision within 15 business days. For Engineering Technicians starting in a new role, this avoids gaps between your offer date and authorized start date.
Frequently Asked Questions
Does JPMorganChase sponsor H-1B visas for Engineering Technicians?
Yes, JPMorganChase sponsors H-1B visas for Engineering Technician roles and has done so consistently across its technology and infrastructure functions. The company works with experienced immigration counsel and has established internal processes for filing, so sponsorship for qualified candidates in this role is a standard part of the hiring workflow, not an exception.
Which visa types are commonly used for Engineering Technician roles at JPMorganChase?
H-1B is the most common pathway for Engineering Technician positions, but JPMorganChase also supports E-3 visas for Australian citizens and H-1B1 visas for citizens of Chile and Singapore. For longer-term employees, Green Card sponsorship through the EB-2 or EB-3 category via the PERM labor certification process is also available for eligible roles.
What qualifications does JPMorganChase expect for Engineering Technician positions?
JPMorganChase typically looks for a relevant technical degree or equivalent certification, combined with hands-on experience in systems administration, infrastructure support, or hardware and network operations. Roles within their financial technology divisions may also require familiarity with compliance-driven environments, where documentation standards and change management protocols are closely followed.
How do I apply for Engineering Technician jobs at JPMorganChase?
Start by browsing open Engineering Technician roles at JPMorganChase through Migrate Mate, which filters listings by employer sponsorship history so you can confirm visa support before applying. Once you identify a match, apply through JPMorganChase's careers portal and clearly indicate your visa status and work authorization needs early in the recruiter screening call to avoid delays.
How do I manage the timing between my visa status and a JPMorganChase start date?
If you're on OPT or in a grace period, communicate your authorization end date to JPMorganChase's HR team immediately after receiving an offer. Their immigration counsel can assess whether premium processing through USCIS is needed to bridge the gap. For H-1B transfers from another employer, portability rules under AC21 allow you to start once USCIS receives the petition, provided you've been in valid H-1B status for at least 180 days.
