Tips for Finding Instructor Jobs at Nova Southeastern University
Align your credentials to NSU's discipline areas
NSU's Instructor openings span health professions, education, business, and STEM fields. Before applying, confirm your degree field directly matches the teaching area listed, since USCIS requires a direct relationship between your specialization and the role for H-1B approval.
Target departments with recurring Instructor hiring
NSU's colleges, particularly the Health Professions Division and Farquhar Honors College, post Instructor roles throughout the year. Applying directly through NSU's faculty careers portal, rather than third-party aggregators, gives you visibility into postings before they close.
Clarify sponsorship intent before your final interview round
University HR teams often handle sponsorship centrally, not at the department level. Ask your department contact to loop in NSU's Office of International Affairs early, so the filing timeline is confirmed before you receive a formal offer.
Prepare your foreign degree equivalency documentation early
If your highest degree was earned outside the U.S., have a credential evaluation completed by a NACES-approved agency before your first interview. NSU and USCIS both require evidence that your degree meets U.S. equivalency standards for the Instructor position.
Understand how PERM affects Instructor sponsorship timelines
If NSU moves you toward an EB-2 or EB-3 Green Card, DOL's PERM labor certification process adds 12 to 18 months before the immigrant petition even begins. Factor this into your planning if you're currently on OPT or a visa with a fixed end date.
Use Migrate Mate to find active Instructor openings at NSU
Search Migrate Mate to filter specifically for Instructor roles at Nova Southeastern University that include visa sponsorship. You can narrow results by visa type, which helps you prioritize openings where H-1B or E-3 visa sponsorship is already confirmed by the employer.
Frequently Asked Questions
Does Nova Southeastern University sponsor H-1B visas for Instructors?
Yes, Nova Southeastern University sponsors H-1B visas for Instructor roles. As an accredited university, NSU qualifies as a cap-exempt H-1B employer, which means petitions can be filed at any time of year without competing in the annual lottery. This is a significant advantage for candidates who need to start or transition roles outside the standard April filing window.
How do I apply for Instructor jobs at Nova Southeastern University?
Applications go through NSU's official faculty and staff careers portal, where Instructor positions are listed by college and department. You'll typically submit a cover letter, CV, and teaching philosophy. Once you reach the offer stage, NSU's Office of International Affairs coordinates the sponsorship process, so you don't need to arrange immigration filings independently.
Which visa types does Nova Southeastern University commonly use for Instructor roles?
NSU sponsors H-1B visas most commonly for ongoing Instructor positions. J-1 visas are used for visiting faculty and exchange-based appointments. TN visa status is available for Canadian and Mexican nationals in qualifying teaching roles. For longer-term hires, NSU has supported EB-2 and EB-3 Green Card sponsorship through the PERM labor certification process.
What qualifications does Nova Southeastern University expect for Instructor positions?
Most Instructor roles at NSU require at minimum a master's degree in the relevant field, with doctoral credentials expected for positions in professional programs like pharmacy, law, or medicine. Teaching experience, particularly at the post-secondary level, strengthens your application. Roles in clinical fields often require active professional licensure in addition to academic credentials.
How long does the visa sponsorship process take for an NSU Instructor role?
For H-1B petitions, standard USCIS processing takes three to six months, with premium processing available to reduce that to 15 business days. Because NSU is cap-exempt, timing is flexible. If you're pursuing a Green Card through EB-2 or EB-3, expect the full PERM and petition process to take two to four years or longer depending on your country of birth.
