Every day, tens of millions of people come to Roblox to explore, create, play, learn, and connect with friends in 3D immersive digital experiences– all created by our global community of developers and creators.
At Roblox, we’re building the tools and platform that empower our community to bring any experience that they can imagine to life. Our vision is to reimagine the way people come together, from anywhere in the world, and on any device. We’re on a mission to connect a billion people with optimism and civility, and looking for amazing talent to help us get there.
A career at Roblox means you’ll be working to shape the future of human interaction, solving unique technical challenges at scale, and helping to create safer, more civil shared experiences for everyone.
WHY SAFETY?
At Roblox, we strive to connect a billion people with optimism and civility, and the Safety organization’s mission is to become the leader in civil immersive online communities. We systematically detect, remove, and prevent problematic accounts, content and behavior, and we make Roblox accounts secure and free from compromise. We cover a broad area of the tech spectrum, including machine learning, classifiers for 3D models, experimentation, automation, detection workflows, and AI-powered text filters. Aligned and partnering with product teams, we use this toolbelt to discover new opportunities, influence and shape the product roadmap and prioritization, build safety products, and measure the impact on our community of users and developers. In doing so, we keep Roblox safe, civil, and inclusive, and we foster positive relationships between people around the world.
WHY Safety Applications?
As we scale, the complexity and volume of safety threats have grown exponentially, making Trust and Safety the single most critical engineering problem we face. The platform’s ability to achieve its mission hinges entirely on the foundational tooling we build.
We are not just responding to incidents; we are building the scalable operating system for all of Roblox’s Trust & Safety strategy. As a Senior Engineer on the Safety Application pod within the Safety Experience, you will be instrumental in developing our in-house safety applications. This role emphasizes building intuitive, scalable, and AI-agentic-powered tooling for daily Roblox safety acts. If you are passionate about solving complex, high-impact problems in an adversarial landscape, this is the team for you. You will report to the Engineering Manager of the Safety Application Team.
YOU WILL:
- Architect and Lead End-to-End Systems: Assume ultimate technical ownership for the lifecycle of complex, full-stack systems within Safety labeling and Investigative tooling. Drive the technical strategy from specification through implementation, rollout, and iteration, actively shaping and influencing the pod's broader roadmap.
- Spearhead Cross-Functional Alignment: Act as the primary technical anchor for Operations, Product Managers, and partner safety pods. Take the lead in resolving highly ambiguous workflows, translating complex business pain points into scalable, extensible technical architectures while proactively managing tech debt and long-term platformization goals.
- Pioneer Architectural Vision: Define and drive the architectural direction for the next generation of safety applications. Lead the integration of advanced AI methodologies (including LLMs and agentic workflows) to build highly effective, scalable moderation solutions.
- Design and Scale Core Primitives: Architect, build, and evangelize shared moderation primitives (e.g., Compliance infrastructure, Quality Assurance, Traffic Routing, workforce management, and agentic AI labeling frameworks). Empower external integrator teams by creating frictionless, self-serve onboarding pathways for new safety surfaces.
- Drive Multi-Quarter Initiatives: Lead large-scale, cross-organizational technical initiatives. Navigate complex dependencies, resolve cross-team blockers, and align disparate groups to ensure the widespread adoption and operational success of our core safety applications.
- Act as a Technical Multiplier: Elevate the engineering standards of the team. Take responsibility not just for your own project execution, but for mentoring engineers, driving design reviews, and establishing best practices across the safety platform ecosystem.
- Partner with Leadership: Partner closely with engineering leadership to define technical priorities, reporting directly to the Manager of Safety Applications.
YOU HAVE:
- 7+ years of experience in software development.
- Distributed Systems Architecture: Proven ability to design and implement robust, high-throughput microservices (handling thousands of requests per second) while maintaining a strict focus on system safety and security.
- Safety-Driven Mindset: A strong commitment to designing, implementing, and maintaining systems that prioritize user safety, data integrity, and compliance with safety policies.
- Equivalent experience or a BS in Computer Science, Applied Math, Physics, Engineering, Statistics, or another technical field.
- Curious to learn new technologies and systematically grow your skills.
YOU ARE:
- Experienced (7+ years): You have extensive experience as a full-stack engineer, proficient in both front-end and back-end development, working on complex, production-grade systems end-to-end.
- Analytical & Data-Driven: You possess a strong ability to instrument, collect, and analyze user interaction data (e.g., A/B testing, usage metrics) to inform design decisions and continuously maximize user impact and product performance.
- Versatile & Adaptable: You are proficient across multiple programming languages, frameworks, and technologies (e.g., modern React, #Golang, Python, relational/NoSQL databases, cloud platforms) and can quickly shift focus and master new skills to meet project demands.
- Team-Player & Technical Leader: You are a collaborative team member who actively mentors peers, drives technical excellence, and takes ownership of leading and delivering key features and projects across team boundaries.
- AI native: You are eager to define and build AI-centric solutions, incorporating modern machine learning and agentic AI capabilities directly into the core user experience and system architecture.

Tips for Finding Senior Software Engineering Jobs at Roblox
Tailor your portfolio to platform scale
Roblox engineering roles emphasize distributed systems, real-time infrastructure, and high-concurrency environments. Before applying, document specific projects where you owned architecture decisions at scale, not just feature work, so your experience maps clearly to their senior-level expectations.
Identify your visa category before outreach
Roblox sponsors H-1B, E-3, TN, and H-1B1 visa among others. Knowing which category applies to your nationality before your first recruiter call lets you speak confidently about sponsorship logistics, which signals maturity and reduces friction for the hiring team.
Target teams with active infrastructure buildouts
Roblox's platform, engine, and developer tooling teams tend to post senior engineering roles with the highest regularity. Following their engineering blog and GitHub activity helps you align your application timing with team growth cycles, not just open requisitions.
Clarify LCA and start date sequencing early
Your employer must file a certified Labor Condition Application with the DOL before submitting your H-1B petition to USCIS. Confirm with your Roblox recruiter exactly when they plan to initiate LCA filing so your expected start date stays realistic and avoids gaps in work authorization.
Use Migrate Mate to surface Roblox openings that fit your visa type
Not every Roblox job listing specifies which visa types the role supports. Use Migrate Mate to filter Senior Software Engineering roles by the visa categories Roblox sponsors, so you apply to positions where your work authorization situation is already accounted for.
Prepare for a technical process built for senior assessment
Roblox's interview loop for senior engineers typically includes system design rounds weighted heavily alongside coding. If you're on OPT with a deadline approaching, align your application timing with USCIS's 60-day cap-gap rule so your authorization stays intact through a multi-round process.
Frequently Asked Questions
Does Roblox sponsor H-1B visas for Senior Software Engineers?
Yes, Roblox sponsors H-1B visas for Senior Software Engineering roles. They participate in the annual H-1B cap lottery, and because they hire across multiple engineering disciplines, senior engineering positions are among the roles most consistently supported through the sponsorship process. If you're already in H-1B status with another employer, Roblox can also file an H-1B transfer, which lets you start work as soon as the petition is received by USCIS.
Which visa types does Roblox commonly sponsor for Senior Software Engineering roles?
Roblox sponsors several visa categories for senior engineering talent, including H-1B, H-1B1 visa for Chilean and Singaporean nationals, E-3 visa for Australian citizens, TN visa for Canadian and Mexican professionals, F-1 OPT including the STEM OPT extension, and employment-based Green Card categories such as EB-2 and EB-3. The right category depends on your nationality, current status, and the specific role structure, so confirming with your recruiter early in the process matters.
What qualifications and experience does Roblox expect for Senior Software Engineering roles?
Senior Software Engineering roles at Roblox generally require deep expertise in at least one systems-oriented domain, such as distributed infrastructure, real-time networking, game engine development, or large-scale data pipelines. Roblox places particular weight on candidates who've owned technical decisions end-to-end rather than contributed at a feature level. A bachelor's or master's degree in computer science or a closely related field is standard, and most roles require several years of post-degree industry experience in a senior or lead capacity.
How do I apply for Senior Software Engineering jobs at Roblox?
You can browse and apply for Senior Software Engineering roles directly through Roblox's careers site, or use Migrate Mate to filter Roblox openings by the visa types they sponsor so you're only spending time on roles where your work authorization situation is supported. Once you apply, Roblox's process typically moves through a recruiter screen, technical phone rounds, and a full system design and coding loop before an offer is extended.
How do I manage visa timing if I'm on OPT or in a grace period while interviewing at Roblox?
Roblox's senior engineering interview process can span several weeks across multiple rounds. If you're on F-1 OPT, confirm your OPT expiration date and whether your degree qualifies for the 24-month STEM OPT extension, which buys additional time. If you're in your 60-day grace period after a job loss, that window doesn't authorize work, so you'll need an offer and a filed petition before it ends. Flagging your timeline to the Roblox recruiter early helps them coordinate the LCA and petition filing without unnecessary delays.
