At Snowflake, we are powering the era of the agentic enterprise. To usher in this new era, we seek AI-native thinkers across every function who are energized by the opportunity to reinvent how they work. You don’t just use tools; you possess an innate curiosity, treating AI as a high-trust collaborator that is core to how you solve problems and accelerate your impact. We look for low-ego individuals who thrive in dynamic and fast-moving environments and move with an experimental mindset — who rapidly test emerging capabilities to discover simpler, more powerful ways to deliver results. At Snowflake, your role isn't just to execute a function, but to help redefine the future of how work gets done.
Snowflake is seeking a Principal People Partner to serve as the primary strategic advisor to our Finance and Legal leadership organizations, including direct partnerships with the Chief Financial Officer and Chief Legal Officer / General Counsel. This is a highly visible, staff-plus role designed for an experienced People Partner who operates with executive presence, strong independent judgment, and the ability to shape people strategy at scale.
This role is based in our Menlo Park office, with in-office attendance required three days per week. Due to the nature of ELT partnership, location flexibility is not available for this position.
The Principal People Partner will work closely with senior Finance and Legal leaders, the G&A People Partner leadership team, and People Centers of Excellence to drive organizational effectiveness, leadership capability, and business-aligned people strategy. This role reports to the Director, G&A People Partners.
THE IMPACT YOU WILL MAKE:
As a Principal People Partner, you will operate at the intersection of business strategy, leadership effectiveness, and organizational design, influencing outcomes well beyond your immediate client group. You will:
- Serve as a trusted advisor to executive leadership: Partner directly with the CFO, General Counsel and senior leaders as a strategic thought partner. Provide candid, data-driven counsel on people, organizational, and leadership decisions, and confidently challenge perspectives when needed to drive the best outcomes for the business.
- Shape G&A people strategy: Translate G&A business priorities into an integrated people strategy, spanning org design, workforce planning, succession, performance, and leadership development. Ensure People decisions support Snowflake’s growth, innovation, and market leadership.
- Lead complex, high-impact initiatives: Own and drive enterprise-level initiatives such as organizational redesigns, leadership transitions, succession planning for critical roles, talent assessments, and retention strategies. Navigate ambiguity and influence outcomes without reliance on heavy process or structure.
- Act as a change leader: Guide executive leaders and managers through periods of growth, transformation, and evolving business needs. Serve as a steady presence during change, helping leaders manage organizational complexity while maintaining performance and engagement.
- Coach at the most senior levels: Provide high-impact coaching to VP, SVP and C-level leaders, focused on leadership effectiveness, decision-making, team dynamics, and organizational health.
- Deliver executive-ready insights: Leverage data and qualitative insights to assess organizational health across engagement, performance, attrition, and diversity. Build concise, compelling narratives and presentations that enable executive decision-making and alignment.
- Influence beyond G&A: As a senior member of the People Partner team, contribute to cross-functional initiatives and help shape broader People Partner strategy, standards, and operating models across Snowflake.
- Partner deeply with COEs: Collaborate closely with COEs and regional HR teams to deliver scalable, high-quality people solutions. Ensure consistency with Snowflake programs while tailoring approaches to the unique needs of the G&A organizations.
WHAT YOU BRING:
- 12+ years of progressive HR experience, with significant time spent supporting VP, SVP, and C-level leaders.
- Demonstrated experience partnering directly with a CFO, General Counsel or equivalent ELT leader.
- Strong background supporting Finance, Legal or broader G&A organizations in technology environments.
- Proven ability to operate at a staff-plus or principal level, influencing outcomes beyond a single client group.
- Exceptional executive presence and communication skills, including the ability to deliver crisp, persuasive, data-backed recommendations.
- Deep expertise in organizational design, leadership coaching, succession planning, and navigating organizational conflict.
- Strong business, financial and data acumen, with comfort using insights to challenge assumptions and guide decisions.
- Ability to operate independently in fast-moving, ambiguous environments, balancing strategic thinking with hands-on execution when needed.
- Experience in high-growth companies where People Partners are expected to roll up their sleeves, not rely on extensive infrastructure.
- Proven ability to influence and build trust with senior leaders across diverse functions and geographies.
WORK MODEL & LOCATION:
Snowflake operates a hybrid work model, with three days per week in the Menlo Park office. Due to the nature of executive partnership in this role, this position is not eligible for remote or alternate-location arrangements.

Align your credentials to specialty occupation standards
H-1B approval for Principal-level roles requires your degree field to directly match the position. A software engineering or computer science background maps cleanly, but broader degrees may need supporting documentation showing the theoretical and practical connection.
Target Snowflake's product and platform engineering orgs
Principal roles at Snowflake concentrate in core platform, data cloud infrastructure, and AI/ML product lines. Positioning your experience around distributed systems, query optimization, or large-scale data pipelines puts you in the highest-demand hiring lanes.
Use Migrate Mate to filter open Principal roles by visa type
Snowflake posts Principal openings across multiple functions simultaneously. Use Migrate Mate to filter specifically for roles where your visa category is supported, so you're not spending time on positions that won't lead to sponsorship.
Clarify your current status before the offer stage
If you're on F-1 OPT or CPT, confirm your OPT end date before Snowflake's offer timeline. A gap between OPT expiration and H-1B cap-subject start date on October 1 can create unlawful presence if not bridged with a timely filed petition.
Understand what PERM means for EB-2 or EB-3 sponsorship
If you're targeting a Green Card through Snowflake, PERM labor certification requires the company to test the labor market before sponsoring you. Starting that conversation at offer negotiation, not after your first year, gives you a realistic timeline for permanent residency.
Prepare a technical portfolio that demonstrates principal-level scope
Snowflake's Principal hiring bar emphasizes cross-functional impact and architectural ownership, not just individual execution. Your portfolio should document systems you've designed, decisions you've influenced across teams, and measurable outcomes at scale.
Frequently Asked Questions
Does Snowflake sponsor H-1B visas for Principals?
Yes, Snowflake sponsors H-1B visas for Principal-level roles across engineering, product, and go-to-market functions. The role must qualify as a specialty occupation under USCIS standards, which generally means it requires at least a bachelor's degree in a specific technical or professional field directly related to the position. Principal roles at Snowflake consistently meet this threshold.
How do I apply for Principal jobs at Snowflake?
Applications go through Snowflake's careers portal. Principal roles are competitive and typically require demonstrating architectural ownership, cross-functional influence, and measurable impact at scale. Tailoring your application to Snowflake's core product areas, such as data cloud infrastructure, AI, or platform engineering, significantly improves your chances. Migrate Mate lets you browse current Principal openings at Snowflake filtered by visa sponsorship eligibility.
Which visa types does Snowflake commonly sponsor for Principal roles?
Snowflake sponsors a range of visa categories for Principal positions, including H-1B, TN visa for Canadian and Mexican nationals, and F-1 OPT and CPT for recent graduates. The company also supports Green Card pathways through EB-2 and EB-3 classifications, and accommodates J-1 visa exchange visitors in applicable roles. The right visa type depends on your nationality, current status, and whether you're targeting a temporary or permanent pathway.
What qualifications does Snowflake expect for Principal-level roles?
Principal roles at Snowflake typically require deep technical expertise in areas like distributed systems, data engineering, cloud infrastructure, or product strategy, combined with demonstrated ability to lead across organizational boundaries. Most Principal openings expect significant industry experience beyond an entry-level background. A graduate degree can strengthen both your candidacy and your H-1B or EB-2 petition, particularly for roles requiring advanced specialization.
How do I navigate the H-1B timeline if I'm currently on OPT?
If you're on F-1 OPT, Snowflake would need to file your H-1B petition during the annual cap registration window, typically in March, for an October 1 start. If your OPT expires before October 1, you'll need a cap-gap extension, which USCIS automatically provides if the petition is filed before your OPT ends. Confirm your OPT expiration date with your DSO and raise the timeline with Snowflake's immigration team early in the offer process.
