Job Description
Drive the transformation of Consumer & Community Banking as a Principal Domain Architect. Lead the development of forward-looking architecture strategies that foster innovation and modernization. Champion the adoption of advanced technologies, including AI, while upholding the highest standards of security and compliance. Collaborate with senior leaders to shape strategic direction and investment priorities, leveraging your expertise to deliver impactful solutions that advance the business and enhance customer experience. As a Principal Domain Architect at JPMorgan Chase within Consumer & Community Banking, you are accountable for defining the target architecture for initiatives that cut across multiple products, platforms, and channels. You will use Domain-Driven Design (DDD) to create clear bounded contexts, domain ownership, and integration contracts, enabling delivery teams to build scalable, secure, and compliant capabilities. You will also shape the modernization agenda—cloud and platform evolution, API/event-driven integration, and AI-enabled capabilities—while partnering with senior leaders across Product and Technology to align architecture with business outcomes.
Job Responsibilities
Target architecture leadership
- Define end-to-end target architectures for Consumer & Community Banking cross-product initiatives, including operating model implications, dependency mapping, and migration strategy.
- Establish reference architectures, patterns, and guardrails for consistent delivery across teams.
Domain-driven design & boundary definition
- Lead domain discovery and modeling workshops with Product, Engineering, Ops, Risk/Controls, and Data stakeholders. Produce clear bounded contexts, context maps, canonical domain language, and ownership decisions (systems of record, decision rights, data stewardship).
- Define integration patterns and contracts (APIs, events, schemas), and drive adoption across product lines.
Modernization & innovation (including AI)
- Identify modernization opportunities such as decomposition, platform consolidation, cloud/hybrid adoption, resiliency, observability, and data lineage.
- Incorporate emerging AI capabilities responsibly—domain-aware copilots/assistants, intelligent document processing, and decisioning support—while addressing governance, model risk, privacy, and security requirements.
- Partner with engineering teams to pilot innovations, define success metrics, and scale what works.
Executive-level partnership & business alignment
- Translate business strategy into architectural decisions, sequencing, and investment trade-offs.
- Collaborate with senior heads of Product and Technology to shape roadmaps, prioritize capabilities, manage cross-product dependencies, and communicate architecture clearly to technical and non-technical audiences.
Risk, resilience, and controls
Ensure architectures meet expectations for regulatory compliance, security, resiliency, data protection, auditability, and embed “secure-by-design” and “controls-by-design” practices in target-state patterns and delivery plans.
Required Qualifications, Capabilities, And Skills
- Proven experience as a domain/enterprise architect leading complex initiatives across multiple products or business lines.
- Strong hands-on mastery of Domain-Driven Design (bounded contexts, ubiquitous language, context mapping, aggregates, domain events) and the ability to apply it pragmatically at scale.
- Demonstrated ability to define and socialize target architectures and drive adoption across diverse engineering teams.
- Strong understanding of financial services/banking domains (e.g., deposits, lending, payments, fraud, servicing, onboarding, channels) and associated regulatory/control expectations.
- Strong executive communication, influencing, and facilitation skills, including working directly with senior Product and Technology leadership.
- Strong business acumen: able to frame architecture decisions in terms of customer outcomes, risk, cost, time-to-market, and operational impact.
Preferred Qualifications, Capabilities, And Skills
- Experience modernizing legacy ecosystems (strangler patterns, platform migration, event-driven architectures, API standardization, domain data products).
- Experience designing and scaling AI-enabled capabilities in regulated environments (governance, model risk, data privacy, prompt/context design, evaluation/monitoring).
- Familiarity with microservices, Kubernetes, cloud/hybrid patterns, streaming platforms, identity/access controls, and enterprise observability.
- Track record of building architecture communities of practice and mentoring architects/engineers.

Align your credentials to specialty occupation standards
USCIS requires H-1B petitions to demonstrate the role requires a specific bachelor's degree or higher. For Principal roles, document how your advanced degree directly maps to quantitative finance, engineering, or a defined technical discipline JPMorganChase uses in the petition.
Target lines of business with consistent sponsorship history
Principal-level hiring at JPMorganChase concentrates in Asset and Wealth Management, Corporate and Investment Banking, and technology divisions. Focus your applications on these lines of business, where sponsorship decisions are routine rather than exceptional approvals requiring escalation.
Identify open Principal roles using Migrate Mate
Migrate Mate surfaces Principal openings at JPMorganChase filtered by visa sponsorship eligibility, saving you from manually cross-referencing job listings against DOL Labor Condition Application filings to confirm sponsorship is genuinely on the table.
Clarify sponsorship scope before the offer stage
JPMorganChase sponsors both nonimmigrant visas and permanent residence through PERM-based categories. Ask your recruiter early whether the role supports Green Card sponsorship timelines, since Principal positions tied to long-term organizational leadership are more likely to include it.
Prepare for a detailed LCA prevailing wage review
The DOL Labor Condition Application requires JPMorganChase to certify your offered wage meets or exceeds the prevailing wage for the role and location. For Principal-level positions in New York or other high-cost hubs, verify the wage level classification with your immigration contact before signing.
Use the 60-day grace period strategically if you change employers
If you're moving to JPMorganChase from another sponsored role, USCIS allows a 60-day grace period after your previous employment ends. File the H-1B transfer petition before that window closes to maintain continuous authorized status throughout the transition.
Frequently Asked Questions
Does JPMorganChase sponsor H-1B visas for Principals?
Yes, JPMorganChase sponsors H-1B visas for Principal-level roles across multiple divisions including investment banking, technology, and quantitative research. The firm has an in-house immigration function that manages petitions directly, which generally means more consistent processes than employers who rely entirely on outside counsel for case-by-case decisions.
Which visa types are commonly used for Principal roles at JPMorganChase?
JPMorganChase sponsors H-1B, E-3 visa, and H-1B1 visas for Principal positions, covering candidates from most countries, Australia, and Singapore and Chile respectively. For candidates seeking permanent residence, the firm supports EB-2 and EB-3 Green Card pathways through the PERM labor certification process, which is more accessible at the Principal level given the defined specialty nature of these roles.
What qualifications are expected for Principal positions at JPMorganChase?
Principal roles at JPMorganChase typically require an advanced degree in a quantitative or technical field, such as finance, computer science, mathematics, or engineering, combined with substantial industry experience. For visa sponsorship purposes, your credentials need to demonstrate direct relevance to the specific role, not just general seniority, since USCIS evaluates whether the position genuinely requires your degree field.
How do I apply for Principal jobs at JPMorganChase?
You can browse Principal openings that include visa sponsorship on Migrate Mate, which filters listings to show roles where international candidates are actively considered. Applications go through JPMorganChase's own recruitment portal, and the interview process for Principal positions typically includes technical assessments, case-style discussions, and multiple rounds with senior stakeholders before an offer is extended.
How do I understand the timeline for H-1B sponsorship at JPMorganChase?
If you need a new H-1B cap-subject petition, USCIS opens registration in March for an October 1 start date, meaning there is a built-in gap if you're hired outside that cycle. JPMorganChase can file for premium processing to receive a decision within 15 business days once a petition is submitted, which matters if you're managing a transition between roles or visa statuses.
