Align your credentials to UK's clinical programs
University of Kentucky hires Clinical Assistant Professors across its health sciences colleges, so tailor your CV to highlight clinical teaching experience and any board certifications relevant to the specific department, whether that's dentistry, medicine, pharmacy, or nursing.
Request H-1B sponsorship before accepting the offer
University of Kentucky processes H-1B petitions through its international office, but the timeline needs to be built into your start date negotiation. Raise sponsorship explicitly during the offer stage so the filing can be initiated before your current work authorization lapses.
Understand how J-1 waivers affect your H-1B path
Many international clinical faculty arrive on J-1 exchange visitor visas and face a two-year home residency requirement. If you're in this situation, pursuing a J-1 waiver through a Conrad 30 or federal agency waiver clears the path to H-1B sponsorship at an institution like UK.
Browse open Clinical Assistant Professor listings on Migrate Mate
University of Kentucky posts Clinical Assistant Professor openings across multiple departments throughout the year. Use Migrate Mate to filter specifically for UK roles that offer visa sponsorship, so you're targeting active positions rather than searching manually across separate college portals.
Prepare a teaching and clinical portfolio early
UK's hiring committees for Clinical Assistant Professors typically evaluate teaching philosophy statements alongside clinical credentials. Having these documents ready before applications open shortens your turnaround and signals you're serious, which matters when departments are moving toward an offer and USCIS filing windows are tight.
Know how PERM shapes long-term status at UK
If you're targeting permanent residency through an EB-2 or EB-3 category, UK's international office will initiate the PERM labor certification process with DOL. This process takes months before the I-140 petition can be filed, so starting the conversation early in your employment is essential.
Frequently Asked Questions
Does University of Kentucky sponsor H-1B visas for Clinical Assistant Professors?
Yes, University of Kentucky sponsors H-1B visas for Clinical Assistant Professor positions. The university's international office handles petition filings for eligible faculty. Because Clinical Assistant Professor roles typically require a specific advanced degree in a specialized field, they meet the H-1B specialty occupation standard. You should raise sponsorship during the offer negotiation stage to align your start date with the USCIS filing timeline.
How do I apply for Clinical Assistant Professor jobs at University of Kentucky?
Applications for Clinical Assistant Professor positions at University of Kentucky go through the university's official HR portal, with each college posting its own openings. You'll typically need to submit a CV, cover letter, teaching philosophy statement, and references. Migrate Mate aggregates active UK Clinical Assistant Professor listings that include visa sponsorship, which makes it easier to identify the right openings without monitoring multiple departmental sites.
Which visa types does University of Kentucky commonly use for Clinical Assistant Professor roles?
University of Kentucky supports several visa categories for Clinical Assistant Professors, including H-1B, J-1 visa, TN visa (for Canadian and Mexican nationals), F-1 OPT, and F-1 CPT for recent graduates. For permanent residency, UK has experience with EB-2 and EB-3 petitions. The right visa depends on your nationality, current status, and whether you hold an advanced clinical or research degree relevant to the role.
What qualifications are expected for Clinical Assistant Professor roles at University of Kentucky?
Most Clinical Assistant Professor openings at University of Kentucky require a terminal degree in the relevant clinical discipline, such as an MD, PharmD, DNP, or PhD. Active licensure or board certification is typically required for patient-facing or supervised clinical teaching roles. Prior teaching experience at the university level and an established clinical or research focus strengthen your candidacy significantly across UK's health sciences colleges.
How does the visa sponsorship timeline work for a Clinical Assistant Professor offer at University of Kentucky?
Once an offer is extended, UK's international office initiates the sponsorship process, which varies by visa type. H-1B petitions must be filed with USCIS and, if you're subject to the annual cap, timed to the April 1 filing window for an October 1 start. J-1 and TN processing moves faster. Starting the conversation with the hiring department about your status at the interview stage gives the international office enough lead time to prepare the filing.
