Construction Intern Jobs in Colorado: Frequently Asked Questions
How do you become a construction intern in Colorado?
Becoming a construction intern in Colorado starts with enrollment in an accredited construction management, civil engineering, or architecture program at a Colorado university such as Colorado State University, CU Boulder, or Colorado School of Mines. Most employers require active enrollment, a minimum GPA, and completion of foundational coursework in project management or structural systems. Earning an OSHA 10 certification before applying gives candidates a concrete advantage and is often listed as a preferred qualification in Colorado postings.
Which companies hire construction interns in Colorado?
Companies currently hiring construction interns in Colorado include Burns & McDonnell, Trane Technologies, and The Garrett Companies, per current listings on Migrate Mate as of September 2026. Colorado's strong pipeline of commercial, transportation, and mixed-use development projects means established general contractors and specialty subcontractors consistently maintain internship programs throughout the year.
Which Colorado cities have the most construction intern jobs?
The cities with the most construction intern openings in Colorado are Denver, Aurora, and Colorado Springs. Denver drives the largest share of postings thanks to ongoing light rail expansion, commercial redevelopment along the I-25 corridor, and a dense concentration of regional contractor offices, while Colorado Springs and Fort Collins reflect active residential and civic construction tied to military base adjacency and university-driven growth respectively.
Are there remote construction intern jobs in Colorado?
Yes, but they're rare. About 50% of construction intern openings tied to Colorado are remote or hybrid as of September 2026, reflecting how heavily the role depends on physical site presence. The portions of the work most likely to be performed off-site include plan review, submittal coordination, scheduling support, and project documentation tasks handled from a company office rather than the field.
How can I get hired as a construction intern in Colorado with little or no experience?
The most realistic entry path is applying directly to summer internship programs run by large Colorado general contractors such as Hensel Phelps, Kiewit, or Saunders Construction, which are designed for students with no prior field experience. Positions in submittal logging, RFI tracking, and jobsite safety observation serve as common starting points. Holding an OSHA 10 card and completing any hands-on coursework, even a single field methods course, strengthens an application considerably when professional experience is limited.
Where can I find and apply to construction intern jobs in Colorado?
You can find and apply to construction intern jobs in Colorado on Migrate Mate, which lists current openings from employers hiring across the state. Search the available roles, identify the ones that match your program year and area of focus, and apply directly to the positions that fit.
