Construction Manager Jobs in Massachusetts: Frequently Asked Questions
How do you become a construction manager in Massachusetts?
The most direct path is earning a bachelor's degree in construction management, civil engineering, or architecture, then gaining field experience on commercial or institutional projects. Massachusetts requires a Construction Supervisor License (CSL) issued by the Board of Building Regulations and Standards for those overseeing construction work directly. Most employers also value a Certified Construction Manager (CCM) credential or PMP certification, both of which strengthen candidacy for senior roles at major Massachusetts firms and public agencies.
Which companies hire construction managers in Massachusetts?
Employers hiring construction managers in Massachusetts right now include Dennis, Wesco, and Turner & Townsend Pty Limited, based on current listings on Migrate Mate as of August 2026. Massachusetts's concentration of life sciences campuses, university expansions, and large-scale public infrastructure projects keeps a wide range of general contractors, owner's representatives, and specialty construction firms hiring across the state year-round.
Which Massachusetts cities have the most construction manager jobs?
Boston, Massachusetts, and Springfield have the most construction manager openings in Massachusetts. Boston dominates due to its dense pipeline of commercial, healthcare, and transit projects, while Worcester and Cambridge generate steady demand from university campus growth, biotech facility construction, and ongoing urban redevelopment that draws both national contractors and regional firms into those markets.
Are there remote construction manager jobs in Massachusetts?
Yes, but they're rare. About 29% of construction manager openings tied to Massachusetts are remote or hybrid as of August 2026, reflecting that most of the role requires physical site presence for inspections, subcontractor coordination, and safety oversight. The portions most likely to be handled remotely are pre-construction planning, estimating, scheduling, and client reporting for project managers in program oversight roles.
How can I get hired as a construction manager in Massachusetts with little or no experience?
The most realistic entry path is starting as a project engineer, assistant superintendent, or field coordinator with a large general contractor such as Suffolk Construction or Gilbane, both of which run structured entry-level development programs in Massachusetts. A bachelor's degree in construction management or civil engineering and progress toward a Massachusetts CSL give candidates a clear edge. Community college construction programs and internships with public owners like the MBTA or Massachusetts Division of Capital Asset Management also open doors for candidates early in their careers.
Where can I find and apply to construction manager jobs in Massachusetts?
You can find and apply to construction manager jobs in Massachusetts on Migrate Mate, which lists current openings from employers actively hiring in the state. Find roles that fit your experience and specialization below and apply directly to each one.
