Controller Jobs in Kentucky: Frequently Asked Questions
How do you become a controller in Kentucky?
Most Kentucky controller roles require a CPA license issued or recognized by the Kentucky State Board of Accountancy, which administers the Uniform CPA Examination and requires a bachelor's degree with qualifying accounting coursework. Beyond licensure, employers typically expect several years of progressive accounting experience, often in audit, public accounting, or a senior accounting role. Strong candidates have closed books for a full organization and managed at least one direct report.
Which companies hire controllers in Kentucky?
Kentucky controller roles are posted by Jobot, Wright, and Meriton and others right now, based on current listings on Migrate Mate as of July 2026. Kentucky's mix of large healthcare systems, automotive manufacturers, and regional financial services firms makes it a consistent market for controller-level finance talent.
Which Kentucky cities have the most controller jobs?
Louisville, Lexington, and Paducah account for the largest share of controller openings in Kentucky. Louisville drives volume through its concentration of Fortune 500 and large regional employers in healthcare and logistics, Lexington draws from its university-anchored economy and growing professional services sector, and Northern Kentucky benefits from its proximity to Cincinnati's dense corporate base just across the state line.
Are there remote controller jobs in Kentucky?
Yes, and more than many finance roles. About 0% of controller openings tied to Kentucky are remote or hybrid as of July 2026, reflecting how much of the work centers on analysis, reporting, and system management rather than on-site operations. Financial reporting, budgeting, and consolidations are the functions most commonly performed remotely, while audit coordination and team oversight tend to require occasional in-office presence.
How can I get hired as a controller in Kentucky with little or no experience?
The most realistic path into a controller role without direct experience is through a senior accountant or accounting manager position at a Kentucky hospital system, manufacturing firm, or regional bank, where internal promotions into the controller seat are common. Large Kentucky employers such as University of Kentucky HealthCare and regional community banks regularly hire staff accountants and give them exposure to close processes and consolidations. Earning CPA licensure through the Kentucky State Board of Accountancy while building that base significantly accelerates the transition.
Where can I find and apply to controller jobs in Kentucky?
