Cost Accountant Jobs in Tennessee: Frequently Asked Questions
How do you become a cost accountant in Tennessee?
Most cost accountant roles in Tennessee require a bachelor's degree in accounting or finance as the baseline qualification. Tennessee does not require a state-issued license specifically for cost accountants, but earning a CPA through the Tennessee State Board of Accountancy significantly expands your opportunities, particularly at larger employers in manufacturing and healthcare. Many hiring managers also value the Certified Management Accountant credential for candidates focused on cost and managerial accounting.
How much do cost accountants make in Tennessee?
Cost accountants in Tennessee earn a median of about $76,840 a year, based on May 2025 Bureau of Labor Statistics wage data, ranging from around $49,920 for the lowest 10% to over $122,160 for the top 10%. Pay rises with experience, specialty, and employer.
Which companies hire cost accountants in Tennessee?
Employers hiring cost accountants in Tennessee right now include Loenbro, Revance Therapeutics, and Gränges, based on current listings on Migrate Mate as of September 2026. Tennessee's concentration of automotive manufacturers, large hospital systems, and distribution centers makes it one of the more consistent markets in the Southeast for cost accounting roles.
Which Tennessee cities have the most cost accountant jobs?
Nashville, Clinton, and Franklin have the most cost accountant openings in Tennessee. Nashville dominates because of its large healthcare and corporate headquarters presence, while Memphis draws demand from logistics and distribution companies clustered around its freight hub, and Chattanooga reflects the growth of automotive and advanced manufacturing employers in the region.
Are there remote cost accountant jobs in Tennessee?
Yes, and they are more common than in many other accounting specialties. About 0% of cost accountant openings tied to Tennessee are remote or hybrid as of September 2026, reflecting how much of the analysis work is done in ERP systems and spreadsheets rather than on a plant floor. Fully remote roles tend to appear most often in financial reporting and variance analysis, while positions requiring physical inventory counts or close plant-floor collaboration are typically on-site.
How can I get hired as a cost accountant in Tennessee with little or no experience?
The most realistic entry path is landing a staff accountant or accounting analyst role at a Tennessee manufacturer or hospital system and building cost-specific experience from there. Large employers like Bridgestone Americas and HCA Healthcare regularly hire new graduates into rotational finance or accounting associate programs. Pursuing the CPA through the Tennessee State Board of Accountancy while working gives candidates a measurable edge, and candidates coming from accounts payable, payroll, or inventory control roles often transition into junior cost accounting positions successfully.
Where can I find and apply to cost accountant jobs in Tennessee?
You can find and apply to cost accountant jobs in Tennessee on Migrate Mate, which lists current openings from employers across the state. Search the listings, find roles that fit your background and location, and apply directly to the ones that match.
