Tax Senior Jobs in Tennessee: Frequently Asked Questions
How do you become a tax senior in Tennessee?
Most tax senior roles in Tennessee require a CPA license issued or recognized by the Tennessee State Board of Accountancy, which oversees licensure in the state. Candidates typically hold a bachelor's degree in accounting and complete the required credit hours before sitting for the Uniform CPA Exam. From there, most firms expect a few years of tax compliance or provision experience before promoting or hiring into a senior-level role.
How much do tax seniors make in Tennessee?
Tax seniors in Tennessee earn a median of about $76,840 a year, based on May 2025 Bureau of Labor Statistics wage data, ranging from around $49,920 for the lowest 10% to over $122,160 for the top 10%. Pay rises with experience, specialty, and employer.
Which companies hire tax seniors in Tennessee?
Employers hiring tax seniors in Tennessee right now include BDO, CBIZ, and Deloitte, based on current listings on Migrate Mate as of September 2026. Tennessee's mix of large corporate headquarters, regional public accounting firms, and major healthcare and logistics employers creates consistent demand for experienced tax professionals across the state.
Which Tennessee cities have the most tax senior jobs?
Nashville, Memphis, and Murfreesboro account for the largest share of tax senior openings in Tennessee. Nashville drives the most volume as the state's commercial and financial center, home to major corporate headquarters and large regional accounting offices, while Memphis draws demand from its logistics and healthcare anchors and Knoxville reflects steady hiring from its university-tied business community and regional firms.
Are there remote tax senior jobs in Tennessee?
Yes, and more than most fields. Tax senior work is largely analytical and document-driven, making it well suited to remote arrangements. About 64% of tax senior openings tied to Tennessee are remote or hybrid as of September 2026, reflecting how widely accounting firms and corporate tax departments have adopted flexible structures. Compliance and provision roles tend to offer the most remote flexibility, while roles with heavy client-facing or state audit responsibilities often require some in-office presence.
How can I get hired as a tax senior in Tennessee with little or no experience?
The most realistic entry path is landing a staff tax associate role at a regional or national public accounting firm with Tennessee offices, such as those operating in Nashville or Knoxville, and building toward a senior promotion from within. Large Tennessee employers and Big Four affiliates regularly recruit from the University of Tennessee, Vanderbilt, and Belmont accounting programs. Passing the CPA Exam early, even before licensure, and gaining exposure to tax software through internships gives candidates a clear edge over peers.
Where can I find and apply to tax senior jobs in Tennessee?
