Crew Leader Jobs in New York: Frequently Asked Questions
How do you become a crew leader in New York?
The most direct path is to build hands-on experience in your target field, then step into a lead role from within. New York does not require a state-issued crew leader license as a standalone credential, but many employers expect field-specific certifications such as a New York State pesticide applicator license for landscaping roles or an OSHA 10 or 30 card for construction. Most crew leaders in New York start in frontline positions and move up after demonstrating reliability and the ability to manage people on the job.
How much do crew leaders make in New York?
Crew leaders in New York earn a median of about $78,580 a year, based on May 2025 Bureau of Labor Statistics wage data, ranging from around $50,400 for the lowest 10% to over $118,680 for the top 10%. Pay rises with experience, specialty, and employer.
Which companies hire crew leaders in New York?
Employers hiring crew leaders in New York right now include Brightview, BrightView Landscapes, and City of New York, based on current listings on Migrate Mate as of June 2026. New York's mix of large-scale infrastructure projects, managed green spaces, and institutional food service operations means demand stays consistent across multiple industries and borough-level employers year-round.
Which New York cities have the most crew leader jobs?
Oceanside, Jamesville, and Latham have the most crew leader openings in New York. New York City dominates the count given its sheer scale of construction, parks, and contracted facility services, while Long Island and cities like Yonkers and White Plains generate steady demand from commercial landscaping and municipal contracts tied to the suburban corridor north of the city.
Are there remote crew leader jobs in New York?
Yes, but they're rare. Crew leader roles are fundamentally hands-on and site-dependent, so the majority require a physical presence. About 0% of crew leader openings tied to New York are remote or hybrid as of June 2026, and those positions tend to involve scheduling, logistics coordination, or project oversight functions that can be handled off-site rather than day-to-day field supervision.
How can I get hired as a crew leader in New York with little or no experience?
The most realistic entry point is applying for a crew member or laborer role with a large New York employer and working toward a lead designation from within. Employers like BrightView, Aramark, and the city's Parks Department run structured programs where reliable workers move into lead roles within one or two seasons. Earning an OSHA 10 certification or a New York State pesticide applicator license before applying sets candidates apart, as does any experience managing a small team in an adjacent role such as shift lead, driver, or warehouse team lead.
Where can I find and apply to crew leader jobs in New York?
You can find and apply to crew leader jobs in New York on Migrate Mate, which lists current openings across the state. Search the listings, find roles that match your experience and location, and apply directly to the ones that fit.
