Production Supervisor Jobs in New York: Frequently Asked Questions
How do you become a production supervisor in New York?
Most production supervisors in New York advance from hourly production roles by demonstrating reliability and leadership on the floor before moving into a supervisory title. New York does not require a state-issued license for this role. Employers typically look for a combination of hands-on manufacturing experience and a degree or certificate in operations, industrial technology, or business. Completing a lean or Six Sigma certification strengthens a candidate's profile significantly in New York's competitive manufacturing market.
How much do production supervisors make in New York?
Production supervisors in New York earn a median of about $78,580 a year, based on May 2025 Bureau of Labor Statistics wage data, ranging from around $50,400 for the lowest 10% to over $118,680 for the top 10%. Pay rises with experience, specialty, and employer.
Which companies hire production supervisors in New York?
Employers hiring production supervisors in New York right now include Ammega, Atkore, and Avery Dennison, based on current listings on Migrate Mate as of June 2026. New York's mix of food processing, pharmaceutical, and industrial manufacturing companies means openings are distributed across the state, with the highest concentration near Buffalo, Rochester, and the New York City metro area.
Which New York cities have the most production supervisor jobs?
Beacon, Watervliet, and Cheektowaga have the most production supervisor openings in New York. The New York City metro drives volume through its large food, beverage, and consumer goods operations, while Buffalo and Rochester anchor manufacturing activity in western New York, where longstanding industrial employers and newer advanced manufacturing facilities consistently post supervisory roles.
Are there remote production supervisor jobs in New York?
Yes, but they're rare. Production supervisor work is fundamentally hands-on and floor-based, so the vast majority of roles require a physical presence in the facility. About 0% of production supervisor openings tied to New York are remote or hybrid as of June 2026, and those are almost exclusively administrative or planning-heavy positions rather than direct floor supervision roles.
How can I get hired as a production supervisor in New York with little or no experience?
The most realistic entry path is to start as a production associate or line operator at a New York manufacturer and move into a team lead or shift lead role before applying for a supervisor title. Large New York employers in food processing and pharmaceuticals frequently promote from within. Earning an associate degree from a SUNY campus in industrial technology or completing a lean manufacturing certificate sharpens a first-time supervisor application considerably.
