Production Supervisor Jobs in Michigan

The Production Supervisor is responsible for overseeing daily production activities to ensure production schedules, efficiency, quality, safety, and employee performance goals are achieved. This role provides leadership and direction to production employees, assigns labor according to production needs, monitors production metrics, supports employee training and development, and ensures compliance with company policies and procedures. The Production Supervisor works closely with the Production Manager, Scheduling, Maintenance, Quality, Human Resources, and other departments to resolve issues, minimize downtime, improve processes, and maintain a safe, efficient, and organized manufacturing environment.

Key Responsibilities

• Oversee daily production operations to ensure production schedules, efficiency, quality, safety, and performance goals are achieved. Assign and adjust production labor according to business needs, provide production coverage as needed, and ensure employees understand daily priorities and expectations.
• Monitor, analyze, and communicate production metrics to ensure goals are met or exceeded. Maintain production dashboards, charts, and required reports using Plex, Ignition, production summaries, parts-produced-per-hour reports, work center logs, and other applicable systems.
• Ensure accurate production and labor reporting in Plex and Ignition, including employee labor allocation, production activity, downtime reasons, machine status, and unscheduled activity. Ensure work requests are submitted for downtime and minimize inaccurate or incomplete system entries.
• Lead and develop production employees through daily communication, training, coaching, and performance management. Review work instructions, conduct required training, maintain the training matrix, and ensure employees are properly trained and documented on assigned processes and equipment.
• Monitor and enforce safety and environmental requirements throughout the production areas. Ensure compliance with company safety policies and PPE requirements, document safety incidents, participate in safety audits, and conduct required hazardous waste and chemical storage audits.
• Monitor production quality and process performance to ensure products meet established quality requirements and customer specifications. Identify and address production issues, support troubleshooting, and collaborate with Quality, Maintenance, and other departments to resolve process or equipment concerns.
• Coordinate production flow and equipment activities including coating line and surface preparation changeovers, employee breaks, fixture cleaning, tool and set maintenance, downtime response, and minor equipment troubleshooting to minimize disruptions and maintain production schedules.
• Maintain an organized and efficient production environment by facilitating end-of-shift cleanup, chemical room organization, proper storage and handling of coatings and solvents, inventory and label corrections, and overall housekeeping within assigned areas.
• Manage employee-related activities including attendance, time-off approvals, staffing adjustments, employee performance, conduct, and workplace concerns. Address issues promptly and professionally, enforce company policies and procedures, and partner with Human Resources when additional support is needed.
• Drive continuous improvement and cross-functional collaboration by identifying opportunities to improve safety, quality, productivity, efficiency, and employee development. Communicate regularly with the Production Manager, Scheduling, Quality, Maintenance, Materials, Human Resources, and other shift supervisors to support a safe, efficient, and successful production environment.

Education & Experience:

· Bachelor’s degree

· Minimum 5 years previous supervisory or leadership experience in a manufacturing or production environment.

Qualifications

• Manufacturing experience in coatings, surface preparation, or a similar environment preferred.
• Strong leadership, communication, organizational, and problem-solving skills.
• Previous experience with leading, training, motivating, and holding production employees accountable.
• Previous experience with understanding and communicating production schedules, work instructions, safety requirements, and company policies.
• Previous experience with monitoring production performance, identifying issues, and taking appropriate corrective action.
• Previous experience with troubleshooting minor production or equipment issues and coordinating support when needed.
• Previous experience with managing multiple priorities in a fast-paced manufacturing environment.
• Strong attention to detail and ability to maintain accurate documentation and reporting.
• Basic to intermediate computer skills, including Microsoft Office; experience with Plex, Ignition, or similar manufacturing systems preferred.
• Previous experience with working effectively with employees and cross-functional teams to resolve production, quality, safety, maintenance, and employee-related issues.
• Knowledge of workplace safety practices, Lean Manufacturing, 5S, or continuous improvement methods preferred.
• Previous experience with consistently and professionally enforcing company policies and procedures.
• Flexibility to work extended hours or provide additional shift coverage as needed.

Work Environment & Physical Demands

• Work is primarily performed in a manufacturing environment with regular exposure to production equipment, coatings, solvents, chemicals, noise, and other manufacturing conditions.
• Regularly required to walk and inspect production areas, chemical storage areas, and other facility work areas.
• Must be able to wear required PPE, including safety glasses, hearing protection, steel-toe footwear, and other protective equipment.
• May be required to stand, walk, bend, reach, and move throughout the facility for extended periods.
• Must be able to respond to production, safety, quality, and equipment issues throughout the shift.
• May occasionally require extended hours, schedule adjustments, or additional shift coverage to meet production requirements.

Pay: From $60,000.00 per year
