Facilities Manager Jobs in New York: Frequently Asked Questions
How do you become a facilities manager in New York?
Most facilities managers in New York enter the field through a combination of relevant education and hands-on building operations experience. While New York does not require a state-issued license specifically for the facilities manager title, roles in New York City frequently require familiarity with Local Law compliance and DOB filing procedures. Earning the Certified Facility Manager credential through IFMA or the FMP designation strengthens candidacy considerably, especially for roles in healthcare or commercial real estate portfolios.
How much do facilities managers make in New York?
Facilities managers in New York earn a median of about $131,350 a year, based on May 2025 Bureau of Labor Statistics wage data, ranging from around $80,160 for the lowest 10% to over $215,730 for the top 10%. Pay rises with experience, specialty, and employer.
Which companies hire facilities managers in New York?
Employers hiring facilities managers in New York right now include Walmart, Eataly Silicon Valley, and Yeshiva University, based on current listings on Migrate Mate as of June 2026. New York's concentration of major hospital networks, university campuses, and large commercial landlords means demand is relatively steady across sectors even when the broader job market softens.
Which New York cities have the most facilities manager jobs?
New York, Bronx, and Fishkill have the most facilities manager openings in New York. New York City dominates the distribution because of its dense commercial office inventory, major hospital systems, and public agency portfolios, while Buffalo and Albany generate consistent volume through their healthcare networks, state government facilities, and growing manufacturing and logistics campuses outside the metro core.
Are there remote facilities manager jobs in New York?
Yes, but they're rare. Facilities management is fundamentally a hands-on, site-based role, so fully remote positions represent a small share of the market. About 0% of facilities manager openings tied to New York are remote or hybrid as of June 2026, and those tend to be regional or portfolio oversight roles where travel between properties substitutes for a single fixed location rather than true work-from-home arrangements.
How can I get hired as a facilities manager in New York with little or no experience?
The most realistic entry path is a facilities coordinator or building operations technician role, which large New York employers such as hospital systems, universities, and commercial property management firms hire for without requiring prior management experience. New York City Housing Authority and major REITs like SL Green regularly post operations associate roles that develop into facilities manager tracks. Earning the IFMA Facility Management Professional credential while working in an adjacent role, such as property management, construction coordination, or building engineering, signals commitment and accelerates advancement.
Where can I find and apply to facilities manager jobs in New York?
You can find and apply to facilities manager jobs in New York on Migrate Mate, which lists current openings across New York City, Buffalo, Albany, and the broader state. Find a role that fits and apply directly through each listing without any intermediary steps.
