Cybersecurity Jobs in Pennsylvania: Frequently Asked Questions
How do you become a cybersecurity professional in Pennsylvania?
Pennsylvania does not issue a state-specific cybersecurity license, so the path runs through education and industry certification. Most employers require a bachelor's degree in cybersecurity, computer science, or information technology paired with a recognized certification such as CompTIA Security+, CISSP, or Certified Ethical Hacker. Pennsylvania's robust defense and healthcare sectors also favor candidates who can obtain a federal security clearance, making that credential a strong differentiator early in a career.
How much do cybersecurities make in Pennsylvania?
Cybersecurities in Pennsylvania earn a median of about $117,770 a year, based on May 2025 Bureau of Labor Statistics wage data, ranging from around $67,840 for the lowest 10% to over $170,870 for the top 10%. Pay rises with experience, specialty, and employer.
Which companies hire cybersecurity professionals in Pennsylvania?
Employers hiring cybersecurity professionals in Pennsylvania right now include Wabtec, Zantech, and Boston Consulting, based on current listings on Migrate Mate as of September 2026. Pennsylvania's concentration of defense contractors, major health systems, and large financial institutions means hiring is distributed across multiple industries rather than concentrated in a single sector.
Which Pennsylvania cities have the most cybersecurity jobs?
Philadelphia, Pittsburgh, and West Mifflin lead Pennsylvania for cybersecurity openings. Philadelphia drives volume through its financial services firms, major hospital networks, and corporate headquarters, Pittsburgh contributes through its university research ecosystem and growing tech sector, and Harrisburg reflects sustained demand from state government agencies and defense-adjacent contractors in the Capital Region.
Are there remote cybersecurity jobs in Pennsylvania?
Yes, and more than most fields. About 90% of cybersecurity openings tied to Pennsylvania are remote or hybrid as of September 2026, reflecting how much of the work involves monitoring dashboards, analyzing logs, and advising on policy rather than physical access to hardware. Roles in threat intelligence, cloud security, and compliance tend to be the most remote-friendly, while on-site presence is more common for positions embedded in classified or regulated facilities.
How can I get hired as a cybersecurity professional in Pennsylvania with little or no experience?
The most realistic entry path is pairing a CompTIA Security+ certification with a degree or bootcamp credential and targeting helpdesk, IT support, or junior SOC analyst roles at large Pennsylvania employers such as UPMC, Independence Blue Cross, or state agencies like the Pennsylvania Department of Revenue. These organizations run structured associate and rotation programs that move analysts into security-focused work. A home lab portfolio demonstrating threat detection or a completed capstone project from an accredited Pennsylvania institution such as Carnegie Mellon or Penn State gives candidates a concrete edge over other applicants without direct experience.
Where can I find and apply to cybersecurity jobs in Pennsylvania?
You can find and apply to cybersecurity jobs in Pennsylvania on Migrate Mate, which lists current Pennsylvania openings across industries and experience levels. Find roles that fit your background and apply directly without creating a profile or signing up first.
