Data Manager Jobs in Pennsylvania: Frequently Asked Questions
How do you become a data manager in Pennsylvania?
There is no state-issued license required to work as a data manager in Pennsylvania, so the path centers on education and demonstrated technical expertise. Most employers expect a bachelor's degree in information management, computer science, or a related field, with a master's degree preferred at larger institutions. Certifications such as Certified Data Management Professional, or CDMP, carry real weight with Pennsylvania healthcare and financial employers, and familiarity with HIPAA requirements is especially valued given the density of health systems in the state.
How much do data managers make in Pennsylvania?
Data managers in Pennsylvania earn a median of about $100,110 a year, based on May 2025 Bureau of Labor Statistics wage data, ranging from around $58,780 for the lowest 10% to over $158,360 for the top 10%. Pay rises with experience, specialty, and employer.
Which companies hire data managers in Pennsylvania?
Employers hiring data managers in Pennsylvania right now include Amazon, Logic, and STO Building, based on current listings on Migrate Mate as of August 2026. Pennsylvania's concentration of large health systems, insurance carriers, and state government agencies means demand stays consistent across both the public and private sectors throughout the year.
Which Pennsylvania cities have the most data manager jobs?
Philadelphia, Pittsburgh, and Pennsylvania have the most data manager openings in Pennsylvania. Philadelphia leads because of its dense cluster of health systems, financial institutions, and universities, while Pittsburgh's strength in healthcare and technology through employers like UPMC and Carnegie Mellon-affiliated organizations drives steady demand, and Harrisburg's concentration of state government agencies and insurance companies supports consistent hiring in that market.
Are there remote data manager jobs in Pennsylvania?
Yes, and more than most fields. Data management is largely a desk and analytical role, making it well suited to remote arrangements. About 50% of data manager openings tied to Pennsylvania are remote or hybrid as of August 2026, reflecting how broadly employers in the state have adopted flexible work policies post-pandemic. Roles focused on data governance, reporting, and pipeline oversight are the most consistently offered as fully remote or hybrid.
How can I get hired as a data manager in Pennsylvania with little or no experience?
The most realistic entry path is moving into a data manager role from an adjacent position such as data analyst, database administrator, or business intelligence analyst, which many Pennsylvania employers treat as a direct pipeline. Large health systems including UPMC and Jefferson Health frequently post data analyst or data coordinator roles that serve as a structured stepping stone. Pursuing a Certified Data Management Professional credential or completing a recognized data governance course strengthens a candidate's profile, and building a portfolio that demonstrates hands-on experience with SQL, ETL tools, or a governance framework can offset a limited work history effectively.
Where can I find and apply to data manager jobs in Pennsylvania?
