Duluth PlayhousePart-Time | $17.00/hour | HybridReports to: Marketing Director
POSITION SUMMARY
Duluth Playhouse seeks a creative, highly organized, and data-driven Digital Marketing Manager to help tell the story of the Playhouse and grow engagement with audiences across digital platforms.
Reporting to the Marketing Director, the Digital Marketing Manager is responsible for creating, capturing, editing, publishing, and optimizing compelling digital content that promotes Duluth Playhouse productions, artists, educational programs, special events, and institutional initiatives.
This is a hands-on creative position for someone who is equally comfortable behind a camera, editing a short-form video, developing social content, and managing analytics to understand what is—and is not—working.
The ideal candidate has a strong visual eye, understands how content performs differently across digital platforms, and can translate the energy of live theatre into engaging digital experiences that build awareness, deepen community engagement, and ultimately support attendance and participation.
This position operates in a hybrid work environment, with some responsibilities completed remotely and regular on-site work required for photography, filming, rehearsals, performances, events, meetings, and other content-gathering opportunities.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES: Digital Content & Social Media
- Create engaging digital content supporting Duluth Playhouse productions, education programs, artists, events, fundraising efforts, and institutional storytelling.
- Support the planning, creation, scheduling, and publishing of content across Duluth Playhouse social media platforms.
- Develop platform-specific content, including short-form video, photography, graphics, stories, reels, behind-the-scenes features, interviews, artist spotlights, and promotional campaigns.
- Maintain an active understanding of evolving digital trends, platform features, audience behaviors, and best practices.
- Collaborate with the Marketing Director to develop content calendars and execute digital campaigns aligned with organizational and ticket-sales priorities.
- Ensure digital content consistently reflects the Duluth Playhouse brand, voice, artistic quality, and organizational values.
- Identify opportunities to expand reach and introduce Duluth Playhouse programming to new audiences.
Photography & Video Production
- Regularly photograph and film rehearsals, performances, educational programming, special events, artists, and behind-the-scenes activity.
- Capture high-quality photo and video content in theatrical environments, including challenging or low-light conditions.
- Produce and edit short-form video content for social media, digital advertising, email, web, and other marketing channels.
- Conduct and film interviews with artists, students, staff, patrons, and community partners as needed.
- Edit and prepare photography for digital publication and promotional use.
- Maintain an organized digital library of photography, video footage, and other media assets.
- Coordinate with artists, production staff, and the Marketing Director to capture content while respecting rehearsal and production processes.
- Help ensure appropriate photo/video permissions, credits, and usage practices are followed.
Digital Optimization & Analytics
- Regularly monitor and analyze digital performance across social media and other applicable platforms.
- Track key performance indicators including reach, impressions, engagement, video views, click-through rates, follower growth, conversions, and other relevant metrics.
- Use analytics to identify successful content, audience behaviors, opportunities for improvement, and emerging trends.
- Make recommendations to the Marketing Director regarding content strategy based on measurable performance.
- Test different formats, messaging, posting strategies, and creative approaches to improve digital results.
- Assist in evaluating the effectiveness of digital campaigns in supporting ticket sales, registrations, audience development, and organizational awareness.
- Prepare clear, concise digital performance reports as requested.
- Approach digital media with a mindset of continual testing, learning, and optimization rather than relying solely on intuition or trends.
Marketing & Organizational Support
- Work collaboratively with the Marketing Director and other departments to identify stories and content opportunities throughout the organization.
- Support digital marketing campaigns for productions, subscriptions, classes, camps, auditions, special events, fundraising, and other organizational priorities.
- Assist with website and email content as assigned.
- Attend select rehearsals, performances, events, and organizational activities for content capture.
- Maintain awareness of the Playhouse's production and marketing calendars and proactively plan for upcoming content needs.
- Represent Duluth Playhouse professionally when interacting with artists, students, patrons, volunteers, community partners, and members of the public.
- Perform other marketing and communications duties as assigned.
QUALIFICATIONSRequired
- Demonstrated experience creating digital content for an organization, business, arts organization, brand, or comparable professional setting.
- Strong photography and videography skills, including demonstrated experience capturing high-quality content with professional or prosumer camera equipment.
- Experience filming and photographing people, events, performances, or other live environments.
- Proficiency with video editing and photo editing software.
- Demonstrated understanding of major social media platforms and how content should be adapted and optimized for different audiences and formats.
- Proven track record of using digital analytics and performance data to improve content, engagement, reach, or campaign effectiveness.
- Ability to interpret digital performance metrics and translate findings into actionable recommendations.
- Strong visual storytelling instincts and attention to composition, pacing, sound, lighting, and overall production quality.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
- Strong organizational and time-management skills with the ability to manage multiple projects and deadlines simultaneously.
- Ability to work independently while collaborating effectively within a larger marketing and artistic team.
- Ability and willingness to work a flexible schedule that includes some evenings and weekends based on the production and event calendar.
- Reliable transportation and ability to work on-site at Duluth Playhouse facilities and other locations when required.

A bachelor's or associate degree in digital media, marketing, communications, photography, videography, film, graphic design, journalism, or a related field is preferred.
Duluth Playhouse also welcomes candidates who have developed equivalent professional expertise through significant hands-on experience, professional training, freelance work, internships, or a strong portfolio of successful digital media work.
Candidates should be prepared to provide a portfolio or examples of photography, video, social media, and/or digital campaign work demonstrating both creative ability and professional execution.
Preferred
- Experience creating digital content for performing arts, entertainment, live events, nonprofit organizations, hospitality, or other audience-driven organizations.
- Experience photographing theatrical productions or other low-light/live performance environments.
- Experience producing short-form vertical video for platforms such as Instagram Reels, TikTok, and YouTube Shorts.

This is a part-time, hybrid position. Administrative, editing, planning, and other responsibilities may be completed remotely as appropriate, while photography, filming, meetings, performances, rehearsals, and events will require regular on-site work.

Digital Marketing Associate Jobs in Minnesota: Frequently Asked Questions
How do you become a digital marketing associate in Minnesota?
Most Minnesota employers expect a bachelor's degree in marketing, communications, business, or a closely related field, and no state-issued license is required for this role. The most direct path is earning a relevant degree from a Minnesota institution such as the University of Minnesota, St. Cloud State, or Minnesota State University Mankato, then building a portfolio of real campaign work through internships, freelance projects, or student organizations. Google Analytics and HubSpot certifications are widely recognized by Minnesota hiring managers and give candidates a concrete edge.
Which companies hire digital marketing associates in Minnesota?
Companies currently hiring digital marketing associates in Minnesota include Evereve, Thrivent, and H.B. Fuller, per current listings on Migrate Mate as of September 2026. Minnesota's strong base of Fortune 500 retailers, healthcare systems, and financial institutions means steady, full-time demand rather than purely project-based hiring.
Which Minnesota cities have the most digital marketing associate jobs?
Minneapolis, Minnesota, and Duluth have the most digital marketing associate openings in Minnesota. The Twin Cities dominate because Target, Best Buy, UnitedHealth Group, and a deep ecosystem of agencies and tech firms are headquartered or heavily staffed there, while Rochester's concentration of Mayo Clinic and its supplier network drives demand in that market, and St. Cloud supports openings tied to regional retail and manufacturing brands.
Are there remote digital marketing associate jobs in Minnesota?
Yes, and more than most fields, since digital marketing work is inherently screen-based and does not require a physical presence. About 80% of digital marketing associate openings tied to Minnesota are remote or hybrid as of September 2026, reflecting how broadly employers have accepted distributed teams for this role. Content creation, SEO, and email marketing tasks tend to be the most consistently remote, while in-person collaboration is more common for roles tied to retail or event-based campaigns.
How can I get hired as a digital marketing associate in Minnesota with little or no experience?
The most realistic entry path is landing a marketing internship or coordinator role at a Twin Cities employer, then converting to a full-time associate position. Target, UnitedHealth Group, and mid-sized Minneapolis agencies regularly hire recent graduates through structured internship programs that frequently lead to full-time offers. Adjacent roles such as marketing coordinator, content assistant, or social media assistant open the same door. Completing recognized certifications in Google Analytics or HubSpot and presenting a portfolio of real campaign results, even from class projects or volunteer work, consistently moves candidates past initial screening.
Where can I find and apply to digital marketing associate jobs in Minnesota?
You can find and apply to digital marketing associate jobs in Minnesota on Migrate Mate, which lists current Minnesota openings updated regularly. Find roles that fit your experience and location preference and apply directly to each one.
