Director Of National Accounts Jobs in Texas: Frequently Asked Questions
How do you become a director of national accounts in Texas?
Most directors of national accounts in Texas reach the role by building at least several years of experience in regional or strategic account management before stepping into a national scope. Texas employers in technology, healthcare, and energy typically look for candidates who have led accounts with significant annual revenue and managed relationships across multiple states. An MBA can accelerate advancement, and familiarity with Texas's dominant industries, including energy services, enterprise tech, and healthcare distribution, gives candidates a concrete edge.

Texas's concentration of corporate headquarters and regional offices in Dallas and Houston makes it one of the more active markets in the country for senior national accounts roles.
Which Texas cities have the most director of national accounts jobs?

Dallas leads because of its density of corporate headquarters and enterprise technology firms, Houston draws demand from energy services and healthcare distribution companies, and Austin's fast-growing technology sector has steadily added senior sales leadership roles over recent years.

About 80% of director of national accounts openings tied to Texas are remote or hybrid as of September 2026, reflecting how often employers prioritize access to key client markets over a fixed location. Client-facing travel is still common, but day-to-day strategy and pipeline management are well-suited to remote arrangements.
How can I get hired as a director of national accounts in Texas with little or no experience?
The most realistic entry path is moving into a national accounts manager or strategic accounts manager role first, then building toward the director level. Large Texas employers in technology and healthcare, such as those headquartered in the Dallas Metroplex or Houston Medical Center corridor, often post national accounts manager roles that serve as direct pipelines to director positions. Lateral moves from regional sales management or key account management are common, and candidates who can demonstrate revenue growth in complex sales cycles, even at a smaller scale, gain serious consideration.
