Education Jobs in North Dakota: Frequently Asked Questions
How do you become a education in North Dakota?
To work as an educator in North Dakota, you must hold a license issued by the North Dakota Education Standards and Practices Board. The standard path is completing a state-approved teacher preparation program, passing required content and pedagogy assessments, and submitting an application to the Board with transcripts and verification of clinical experience. Candidates pursuing special education or career and technical education roles may need additional endorsements specific to those areas.
Which companies hire educations in North Dakota?
Employers hiring educations in North Dakota right now include Fargo Public Schools, West Fargo Public Schools, and North Dakota State College of Science, based on current listings on Migrate Mate as of July 2026. North Dakota's largest school districts, state university system campuses, and tribal colleges also post openings on a rolling basis throughout the academic year.
Which North Dakota cities have the most education jobs?
Fargo, Bismarck, and West Fargo have the most education openings in North Dakota. Fargo leads because of its size and the presence of North Dakota State University and the Fargo Public Schools district, while Bismarck draws demand from the state government workforce and Bismarck Public Schools, and Grand Forks benefits from the University of North Dakota anchoring a consistent need for instructors and academic support roles.
Are there remote education jobs in North Dakota?
Yes, but they're rare. About 25% of education openings tied to North Dakota are remote or hybrid as of July 2026, which reflects the largely in-person nature of classroom instruction. The roles most likely to allow remote work are curriculum developers, instructional designers, online course instructors, and some administrative or policy positions within the state's higher education institutions.
How can I get hired as a education in North Dakota with little or no experience?
The most realistic entry point is applying for a paraprofessional or educational assistant position within a North Dakota public school district, which requires no teaching license and often leads directly to a sponsored path toward licensure. Districts in Fargo, Bismarck, and rural areas with ongoing shortages regularly hire candidates willing to earn their endorsement while working. North Dakota State University and the University of North Dakota also offer alternative licensure programs for career changers with relevant bachelor's degrees who want to enter the classroom.
