We are seeking a compassionate, energetic, and dependable Special Education Classroom Assistant to support students in grades 6 through 8.
Position Summary
The Special Education Classroom Assistant works closely with teachers and related service providers to support student success throughout the school day. The ideal candidate enjoys working with adolescents, demonstrates patience and flexibility, and can build positive relationships while maintaining clear expectations and structure.
Responsibilities
- Provide academic, behavioral, and social-emotional support to students in the classroom
- Assist teachers with implementing lesson plans and classroom activities
- Support students in following behavior plans and classroom expectations
- Help supervise students during transitions, lunch, recess, specials, and community-based activities
- Reinforce positive behavior and classroom routines
- Assist with classroom organization, preparation of instructional materials, and data collection
- Collaborate with teachers, counselors, and administrators to support student growth
- Maintain confidentiality and professionalism in all interactions
Qualifications
Required
- High school diploma or GED
- Experience working with children or adolescents
- Ability to remain calm, patient, and professional in challenging situations
- Strong communication and teamwork skills
Preferred
- Associate's or Bachelor's degree in Education, Psychology, Human Services, or a related field
- Experience in special education, behavioral support, or mental health settings
- Knowledge of trauma-informed practices and positive behavior supports
Pay: $20.00 - $26.00 per hour
Expected hours: 35.0 per week
