Energy Jobs in Texas: Frequently Asked Questions
How do you become a energy in Texas?
The path depends on your specialty, but most energy roles in Texas require a relevant bachelor's degree in engineering, geology, environmental science, or a related field. Engineers pursuing licensure register with the Texas Board of Professional Engineers and Land Surveyors and must pass the Fundamentals of Engineering and Professional Engineering exams. Trades and technical roles often require certifications from bodies like NCCER or the Texas Department of Licensing and Regulation.
Which companies hire energys in Texas?
Employers hiring energys in Texas right now include Energy Transfer, NRG Energy, and Signal Energy Constructors, based on current listings on Migrate Mate as of June 2026. Texas's concentration of major oil and gas headquarters, investor-owned utilities, and growing renewable developers makes it one of the densest hiring markets in the country for energy professionals.
Which Texas cities have the most energy jobs?
Houston, Dallas, and Austin have the most energy job openings in Texas. Houston dominates because it serves as the global headquarters for major oil and gas companies and the center of Gulf Coast refining and petrochemical operations, while Midland-Odessa drives upstream Permian Basin hiring and Dallas-Fort Worth attracts utility, grid operations, and clean energy development roles.
Are there remote energy jobs in Texas?
Yes, but they're rare. Most energy work in Texas is tied to physical infrastructure, whether that's drilling sites in the Permian Basin, refineries along the Gulf Coast, or wind farms in West Texas, so fully remote roles are the exception. About 14% of energy openings tied to Texas are remote or hybrid as of June 2026, and those tend to be in data analysis, energy trading, project management, or corporate finance functions.
How can I get hired as a energy in Texas with little or no experience?
The most realistic entry point is a field technician or operations associate role, which major Texas employers like ExxonMobil, Oncor, and AES use to onboard candidates without direct industry experience. Community colleges affiliated with the Texas State Technical College system offer programs that lead directly to entry-level positions. Completing an NCCER core curriculum, earning an EIT designation, or finishing a university cooperative education program with a Texas-based energy company all give candidates a concrete edge over other applicants.
Where can I find and apply to energy jobs in Texas?
You can find and apply to energy jobs in Texas on Migrate Mate, which lists current openings from employers hiring across the state. Search the listings, find roles that match your experience and specialty, and apply directly to the ones that fit.
