Sustainability Jobs in Texas: Frequently Asked Questions
How do you become a sustainability professional in Texas?
Most sustainability roles in Texas require a bachelor's degree in environmental science, sustainability, engineering, or a related field, and no single state license governs the profession. Employers commonly expect credentials like LEED AP, Certified Energy Manager, or ISSP Sustainability Associate. Gaining experience through corporate environmental compliance, municipal sustainability offices, or energy management programs at Texas universities strengthens a candidate's profile considerably.
Which companies hire sustainability professionals in Texas?
Companies currently hiring sustainability professionals in Texas include Chewy, Deloitte, and MWH, per current listings on Migrate Mate as of August 2026. Texas's concentration of energy majors, large technology campuses, and Fortune 500 headquarters means sustainability teams are embedded across a wide range of industries throughout the state.
Which Texas cities have the most sustainability jobs?
Austin, Houston, and Dallas have the most sustainability openings in Texas. Houston leads because of its dense concentration of energy and petrochemical companies building out ESG and emissions programs, while Dallas attracts corporate sustainability roles tied to Fortune 500 headquarters and real estate portfolios, and Austin draws talent through its technology sector and strong municipal sustainability initiatives.
Are there remote sustainability jobs in Texas?
Yes, and more than many fields, since a meaningful portion of sustainability work involves data analysis, reporting, and stakeholder communication that can be done off-site. About 60% of sustainability openings tied to Texas are remote or hybrid as of August 2026, reflecting employer flexibility in the profession. ESG reporting, sustainability strategy, and carbon accounting roles tend to offer the most remote options, while site-based auditing and environmental compliance roles typically require on-site presence.
How can I get hired as a sustainability professional in Texas with little or no experience?
The most realistic entry path is through an environmental compliance coordinator or sustainability analyst associate role, which large Texas employers in energy and manufacturing use to bring in early-career candidates. Companies like Chevron Phillips Chemical and large municipal utilities run internship and rotational programs that feed into full-time sustainability positions. Building a LEED Green Associate credential or completing energy auditing coursework through a Texas university extension program gives a candidate a concrete edge when competing against other applicants without direct experience.
Where can I find and apply to sustainability jobs in Texas?
You can find and apply to sustainability jobs in Texas on Migrate Mate, which lists current openings tied to the state. Search the listings to find roles that match your background and apply directly to the ones that fit your experience and location preferences.
