Sustainability Jobs in Texas: Frequently Asked Questions
How do you become a sustainability professional in Texas?
Most sustainability roles in Texas are entered through a bachelor's degree in environmental science, engineering, business, or a related field, followed by hands-on experience in corporate ESG, energy, or environmental compliance. Texas does not require a state-issued license for most sustainability positions, but credentials such as LEED AP, the ISSP Sustainability Associate certificate, or a WELL AP designation are commonly expected by major Texas employers and meaningfully strengthen a candidate's profile.
Which companies hire sustainability professionals in Texas?
Employers hiring sustainability professionals in Texas right now include Chewy, EY, and Harris County, based on current listings on Migrate Mate as of June 2026. Texas's deep base of energy, industrial, and Fortune 500 companies means openings range from on-the-ground environmental compliance work to senior corporate ESG strategy roles at company headquarters.
Which Texas cities have the most sustainability jobs?
Houston, Richardson, and Austin hold the most sustainability openings in Texas. Houston dominates because of the energy sector's scale and its concentration of oil, gas, and clean energy companies actively building out sustainability teams, while Dallas-Fort Worth and Austin draw openings from corporate headquarters and the growing clean-tech and municipal sectors headquartered in those metros.
Are there remote sustainability jobs in Texas?
Yes, and more than many fields, particularly for analytical and reporting-focused roles. About 40% of sustainability openings tied to Texas are remote or hybrid as of June 2026, reflecting the desk-based nature of much ESG, carbon accounting, and policy work. Roles involving site audits, environmental compliance inspections, or on-site project management are almost always in-person.
How can I get hired as a sustainability professional in Texas with little or no experience?
The most realistic entry path is targeting sustainability coordinator, environmental analyst, or ESG data associate roles at large Texas energy or industrial companies, which routinely hire recent graduates. ExxonMobil, Vistra Energy, and large municipal utilities in Houston and Dallas operate early-career and rotational programs open to candidates with limited experience. Earning an ISSP Sustainability Associate certificate or a LEED Green Associate credential before applying gives applicants a concrete, recognized credential that compensates for a thin work history.
Where can I find and apply to sustainability jobs in Texas?
You can find and apply to sustainability jobs in Texas on Migrate Mate, which lists current Texas openings across Houston, Dallas-Fort Worth, Austin, and the rest of the state. Find roles that fit your experience and specialization and apply directly to the employers posting them.
