Engineering Project Manager Jobs in Utah: Frequently Asked Questions
How do you become a engineering project manager in Utah?
The most direct path is a bachelor's degree in an engineering discipline, followed by field experience and the Project Management Professional credential. Utah does not require a state-issued license specifically for engineering project managers, but roles tied to design or stamp work often prefer or require a Professional Engineer license issued through the Utah Division of Professional Licensing. Most Utah employers also look for candidates who have led projects in industries relevant to their business, such as defense, construction, or energy.
How much do engineering project managers make in Utah?
Engineering project managers in Utah earn a median of about $161,120 a year, based on May 2025 Bureau of Labor Statistics wage data, ranging from around $113,080 for the lowest 10% to over $221,400 for the top 10%. Pay rises with experience, specialty, and employer.
Which companies hire engineering project managers in Utah?
Companies currently hiring engineering project managers in Utah include Quanta Infrastructure Solutions, L3Harris, and Quanta Services, per current listings on Migrate Mate as of July 2026. Utah's defense, aerospace, and infrastructure sectors mean many of the largest and most consistent employers are either government contractors headquartered along the Wasatch Front or large civil and construction firms with active state contracts.
Which Utah cities have the most engineering project manager jobs?
Salt Lake City, Hill AFB, and Davis County account for the largest share of engineering project manager openings in Utah. Salt Lake City's concentration of corporate headquarters, defense contractors, and infrastructure firms drives the bulk of demand, while Provo and Ogden benefit from major technology campuses, manufacturing operations, and proximity to Hill Air Force Base, which supports a steady flow of systems and defense project management roles.
Are there remote engineering project manager jobs in Utah?
Yes, but they are less common than in purely desk-based fields because engineering project managers frequently need to be on-site to oversee contractors, inspect progress, and coordinate with field teams. About 36% of engineering project manager openings tied to Utah are remote or hybrid as of July 2026. The project phases most likely to allow remote work are planning, budgeting, and reporting, while construction and execution phases typically require a physical presence.
How can I get hired as a engineering project manager in Utah with little or no experience?
The most realistic entry point is moving into the role from an adjacent position such as project coordinator, field engineer, or engineering analyst, titles that are actively recruited at Utah employers including Jacobs Engineering, the Utah Department of Transportation, and large construction firms working on state infrastructure. Earning the CAPM credential from the Project Management Institute signals readiness before you have full PM experience. Many Utah defense contractors also hire junior program coordinators who rotate through project teams and develop management skills on the job.
Where can I find and apply to engineering project manager jobs in Utah?
You can find and apply to engineering project manager jobs in Utah on Migrate Mate, which lists current Utah openings. Search the roles available, find the ones that match your experience and target industry, and apply directly to whichever listings fit your background.
