Field Service Manager Jobs in Michigan: Frequently Asked Questions
How do you become a field service manager in Michigan?
Most field service managers in Michigan start as field technicians or service engineers and advance into management after building hands-on experience in their industry. Michigan does not issue a state-level field service manager license, but roles in HVAC require a Michigan contractor license through the Bureau of Construction Codes, and medical device or electrical roles often require relevant trade or professional credentials. A degree in engineering technology, business, or a technical discipline strengthens candidacy considerably.
How much do field service managers make in Michigan?
Field service managers in Michigan earn a median of about $77,810 a year, based on May 2025 Bureau of Labor Statistics wage data, ranging from around $46,490 for the lowest 10% to over $121,840 for the top 10%. Pay rises with experience, specialty, and employer.
Which companies hire field service managers in Michigan?
Employers hiring field service managers in Michigan right now include Clean Harbors, Frontier, and Alta Equipment, based on current listings on Migrate Mate as of August 2026. Michigan's concentration of automotive suppliers, utility companies, and medical device manufacturers means field service leadership roles open regularly across a broad range of industries in the state.
Which Michigan cities have the most field service manager jobs?
Detroit, Grand Rapids, and Michigan have the most field service manager openings in Michigan. Detroit's deep automotive and manufacturing base drives the largest share of postings, while Grand Rapids draws openings from its medical device and food equipment sectors, and Ann Arbor's university-affiliated medical institutions and tech employers contribute a steady pipeline of roles in those areas.
Are there remote field service manager jobs in Michigan?
Yes, but they're rare. Field service manager roles are fundamentally hands-on, requiring on-site visits, technician oversight, and direct customer presence, which limits remote flexibility by nature. About 41% of field service manager openings tied to Michigan are remote or hybrid as of August 2026, and when remote work does appear, it tends to cover administrative duties like scheduling, reporting, and vendor coordination rather than field operations.
How can I get hired as a field service manager in Michigan with little or no experience?
The most realistic entry path is through a field technician or service coordinator role in a Michigan manufacturing or utility company, then building toward management. Large Michigan employers like Consumers Energy and Stryker run structured development programs that prepare high-performing technicians for leadership. Earning a trade credential, such as an HVAC contractor license through Michigan's Bureau of Construction Codes, or completing a community college program in engineering technology through schools like Macomb Community College, signals readiness for advancement.
Where can I find and apply to field service manager jobs in Michigan?
You can find and apply to field service manager jobs in Michigan on Migrate Mate, which lists current Michigan openings across industries including automotive, utilities, medical devices, and industrial equipment. Find roles that fit your experience and apply directly to the employers posting them.
