Finance Assistant Jobs in Vermont: Frequently Asked Questions
How do you become a finance assistant in Vermont?
Most Vermont employers expect at minimum an associate degree in accounting or business, though many prefer a bachelor's degree for roles involving grant reporting or payroll. Vermont does not issue a state license for finance assistants, but earning a nationally recognized credential such as the NACPB Bookkeeping Certification or the AIPB Certified Bookkeeper designation strengthens applications at Vermont's larger employers, including state agencies, hospital networks, and insurance companies headquartered in the Burlington and Montpelier areas.
Which companies hire finance assistants in Vermont?
Vermont finance assistant roles are posted by Ryder System, HCRS, and Mountain Views Supervisory Union and others right now, based on current listings on Migrate Mate as of July 2026. Vermont's mix of large healthcare systems, state government offices, and regional insurance carriers means openings appear across multiple sectors throughout the year.
Which Vermont cities have the most finance assistant jobs?
Montpelier, Vermont, and Woodstock account for the greatest concentration of finance assistant openings in Vermont. Burlington leads because it anchors the state's largest healthcare, financial services, and university employers, while Montpelier draws openings from state government agencies and insurance firms, and other cities reflect the regional headquarters or branch offices of Vermont's established commercial and nonprofit organizations.
Are there remote finance assistant jobs in Vermont?
Yes, and they are more common than in many fields, since most finance assistant work involves software-based tasks like invoice processing, reconciliations, and reporting that transfer well to remote settings. About 29% of finance assistant openings tied to Vermont are remote or hybrid as of July 2026, reflecting broader flexibility among Vermont's financial services and insurance employers. Accounts payable and bookkeeping support roles tend to have the highest share of fully remote arrangements.
How can I get hired as a finance assistant in Vermont with little or no experience?
The most realistic entry path is applying to accounts payable clerk or administrative accounting associate roles at Vermont's larger institutions, where structured onboarding is common. UVM Health Network and State of Vermont agencies regularly post entry-level finance support positions suited to candidates with no prior accounting experience but a relevant degree or coursework. Moving laterally from an administrative assistant or office coordinator role at a Vermont nonprofit or credit union is another well-worn route. Completing even one course in QuickBooks or earning the NACPB bookkeeping certificate gives your application a concrete edge over other new candidates.
Where can I find and apply to finance assistant jobs in Vermont?
You can find and apply to finance assistant jobs in Vermont on Migrate Mate, which lists current Vermont openings in one place. Search the listings to find roles that match your background and apply directly to the ones that fit your experience and preferred location.
