Functional Analyst Jobs in New York: Frequently Asked Questions
How do you become a functional analyst in New York?
A bachelor's degree in information systems, business analysis, or a related field is the standard entry point for functional analyst roles in New York. New York does not require a state-issued license for this role, but employers here consistently value certifications such as the CBAP from the International Institute of Business Analysis or an ERP-specific credential from vendors like SAP or Oracle. Building experience with state agency systems or financial services platforms, both major in New York, strengthens candidacy considerably.
How much do functional analysts make in New York?
Functional analysts in New York earn a median of about $109,610 a year, based on May 2025 Bureau of Labor Statistics wage data, ranging from around $67,220 for the lowest 10% to over $171,360 for the top 10%. Pay rises with experience, specialty, and employer.
Which companies hire functional analysts in New York?
Employers hiring functional analysts in New York right now include Capgemini, MetLife, and Rheem Manufacturing, based on current listings on Migrate Mate as of June 2026. New York's large financial institutions, state government technology offices, and integrated health systems generate particularly consistent demand for analysts who can connect business process knowledge with enterprise platform configuration.
Which New York cities have the most functional analyst jobs?
New York, Albany, and Brooklyn have the most functional analyst openings in New York. New York City dominates by volume because of its density of financial services firms, healthcare networks, and technology offices, while Albany draws demand from state government IT modernization projects and Buffalo has grown as a back-office and shared-services hub for regional banks and insurers.
Are there remote functional analyst jobs in New York?
Yes, and more than most fields. About 40% of functional analyst openings tied to New York are remote or hybrid as of June 2026, reflecting the desk-based, documentation-heavy nature of the work. Requirements gathering, specification writing, and system configuration support are the parts of the role most consistently offered remotely, while user acceptance testing and stakeholder workshops more often require in-person presence.
How can I get hired as a functional analyst in New York with little or no experience?
The most realistic entry path is a junior business analyst or systems analyst associate role, which large New York employers like Cognizant, Deloitte's New York offices, and New York state agencies post regularly for candidates without deep experience. A degree in information systems or business, combined with a CBAP foundation certificate or an ERP training credential, signals readiness. Moving laterally from a QA tester, data entry, or operations coordinator role within a company that uses SAP or Oracle is another well-traveled door into functional analysis in New York.
Where can I find and apply to functional analyst jobs in New York?
You can find and apply to functional analyst jobs in New York on Migrate Mate, which lists current openings across the state. Search the listings, find roles that match your background and location, and apply directly to the ones that fit.
