Healthcare Sales Representative Jobs in California: Frequently Asked Questions
How do you become a healthcare sales representative in California?
Most California employers expect a bachelor's degree, preferably in biology, chemistry, or business, along with some sales or clinical background. California does not require a state-issued license specifically for healthcare sales representatives, but roles selling certain medical devices or compounded pharmaceuticals may require compliance training under California law. Candidates who build familiarity with California's large integrated delivery networks and demonstrate quota-bearing experience move through hiring processes fastest.
How much do healthcare sales representatives make in California?
Healthcare sales representatives in California earn a median of about $80,850 a year, based on May 2025 Bureau of Labor Statistics wage data, ranging from around $43,240 for the lowest 10% to over $168,720 for the top 10%. Pay rises with experience, specialty, and employer.
Which companies hire healthcare sales representatives in California?
Employers hiring healthcare sales representatives in California right now include TTEC, InnovAge, and Apria Healthcare, based on current listings on Migrate Mate as of September 2026. California's dense concentration of academic medical centers, biotech firms, and regional health systems makes it one of the most active states for ongoing healthcare sales hiring across specialties.
Which California cities have the most healthcare sales representative jobs?
California, Los Angeles, and Anaheim have the most healthcare sales representative openings in California. Los Angeles and San Francisco anchor the market because of their large hospital networks and corporate headquarters, while San Diego's position as a global biotech and medical device hub generates consistent territory and account management roles tied to research institutions and specialty clinics.
Are there remote healthcare sales representative jobs in California?
Yes, but they're less common than in purely desk-based roles, since healthcare sales typically requires in-person visits to clinics, hospitals, and physician offices. About 82% of healthcare sales representative openings tied to California are remote or hybrid as of September 2026, and those tend to cover inside sales, clinical educator, or account management functions that rely more on virtual engagement than field coverage.
How can I get hired as a healthcare sales representative in California with little or no experience?
The most realistic entry path is securing a sales associate, clinical specialist, or medical device sales intern role with a California-based employer before moving into a full territory position. Large California employers such as Kaiser Permanente's vendor network, Sutter Health-aligned distributors, and Southern California biotech firms regularly hire candidates from adjacent roles like pharmacy technician, medical device repair, or clinical coordinator. Completing a certificate in medical sales or earning a CNPR credential gives candidates without a clinical background a concrete edge in competitive California markets.
Where can I find and apply to healthcare sales representative jobs in California?
You can find and apply to healthcare sales representative jobs in California on Migrate Mate, which lists current openings from employers hiring across the state. Search the listings for roles that match your specialty, experience level, and preferred location, then apply directly to the ones that fit.
