Sales Representative Jobs in California: Frequently Asked Questions
How do you become a sales representative in California?
Most sales representative roles in California require a bachelor's degree, though some employers accept an associate degree combined with relevant experience. California does not require a general sales license, but pharmaceutical and medical device sales representatives working with licensed healthcare providers are typically expected to complete manufacturer-specific compliance training. Completing a Salesforce or HubSpot certification and building a record of quota achievement in an adjacent role are the strongest credentials for advancing into competitive California markets.
Which companies hire sales representatives in California?
Employers hiring sales representatives in California right now include Freeway Insurance Services America, Roto-Rooter Plumbing & Water Cleanup, and Moon Valley Nursery, based on current listings on Migrate Mate as of September 2026. California's concentration of Fortune 500 technology companies, major pharmaceutical manufacturers, and large healthcare systems means consistent hiring volume across the state year-round.
Which California cities have the most sales representative jobs?
Los Angeles, San Francisco, and San Diego have the most sales representative openings in California. Los Angeles and San Francisco drive the bulk of volume because of their dense concentrations of technology firms, biotech companies, and corporate headquarters that maintain large field and inside sales teams, while San Diego's robust pharmaceutical and medical device industry sustains steady demand in that market.
Are there remote sales representative jobs in California?
Yes, and more than many fields. About 31% of sales representative openings tied to California are remote or hybrid as of September 2026, reflecting how much of the role involves phone, video, and email outreach rather than on-site presence. Inside sales, SaaS account management, and enterprise software sales roles are the segments most likely to offer fully remote arrangements.
How can I get hired as a sales representative in California with little or no experience?
The most realistic entry path is applying for a sales development representative or business development representative role, which large California technology companies like Salesforce and Okta actively use to onboard candidates without prior sales experience. Retail sales or customer success roles at California-based consumer and SaaS companies also serve as common lateral moves. Completing a recognized CRM certification and building a brief portfolio of cold outreach samples strengthens an application significantly against more experienced candidates.
Where can I find and apply to sales representative jobs in California?
You can find and apply to sales representative jobs in California on Migrate Mate, which lists current California openings updated regularly. Find roles that fit your experience and preferred territory and apply directly to the employers posting them.
