Insurance Agent Jobs in Kentucky: Frequently Asked Questions
How do you become a insurance agent in Kentucky?
To become an insurance agent in Kentucky, you must obtain a producer license through the Kentucky Department of Insurance. Candidates complete a state-approved pre-licensing education course for their chosen line of authority, pass the corresponding Kentucky licensing exam administered by Pearson VUE, and submit an application through the National Insurance Producer Registry. A high school diploma is the minimum education requirement, though many employers in Kentucky prefer candidates with some college coursework in business or finance.
Which companies hire insurance agents in Kentucky?
Companies currently hiring insurance agents in Kentucky include State Farm, Aflac, and Comparion Insurance Agency, per current listings on Migrate Mate as of July 2026. Kentucky's mix of regional carriers, national insurers, and independent agencies means openings are spread across Louisville's financial services corridor and mid-sized markets like Lexington and Bowling Green.
Which Kentucky cities have the most insurance agent jobs?
Louisville, Lexington, and Henderson account for the largest share of insurance agent openings in Kentucky. Louisville drives the most volume as the state's commercial and financial center, home to Humana and a dense network of independent brokerages, while Lexington's growing healthcare and employer base fuels steady demand for group benefits producers, and smaller markets like Bowling Green add openings tied to regional carriers and auto dealership-affiliated agencies.
Are there remote insurance agent jobs in Kentucky?
Yes, and more than many client-facing roles. About 42% of insurance agent openings tied to Kentucky are remote or hybrid as of July 2026, reflecting the industry's broad adoption of digital quoting and virtual client meetings. Inside sales, benefits enrollment, and Medicare plan advising roles are the most consistently remote, while commercial lines and agency-owner positions typically require an in-person presence.
How can I get hired as a insurance agent in Kentucky with little or no experience?
The most realistic entry path is obtaining your Kentucky producer license first, then applying to training or new-agent programs at large carriers like Humana, Anthem, or State Farm, all of which run structured onboarding tracks for unlicensed or newly licensed candidates. Customer service representative and insurance assistant roles at Kentucky independent agencies are common lateral moves that build product knowledge before stepping into a full producer seat. Holding an active license before you apply gives you a clear advantage over unlicensed candidates.
Where can I find and apply to insurance agent jobs in Kentucky?
You can find and apply to insurance agent jobs in Kentucky on Migrate Mate, which lists current Kentucky openings across carriers, brokerages, and independent agencies. Find roles that fit your license type and experience level and apply directly to the employer.
