About the Program
The Austin District's Protégé Program is a paid, full-time apprenticeship for people who want to build a career in insurance and one day own their own Farmers agency. You'll get licensed, train at our district office, learn from a mentor agent, and work toward the sales goals that qualify you to open your own agency.
The Austin District is a Farmers Insurance district office in Austin that runs the program. During the program, you're employed by the independent Farmers agency owner you're appointed under, not by The Austin District or Farmers Insurance.
No insurance experience is required. Career changers, people with sales or customer service backgrounds, and aspiring business owners are all encouraged to apply.
How the Program Works
1. Get licensed. You don't need a license to apply. We provide free access to an online pre-licensing course and study materials covering Property & Casualty and Life & Health.
2. Train. Learn Farmers products, systems, and sales at the district office with our Agency Business Consultant.
3. Get appointed and mentored. You'll be appointed under an experienced agency owner who coaches you one-on-one on how an agency really runs. During the program, that agency owner is your employer.
4. Hit your sales goals. You'll work toward clear, measurable sales milestones.
5. Graduate to ownership. Once you reach your goals, you can sign an independent Farmers agent contract and open your own agency, with ongoing support from the district.
Most protégés move through the program in about a year. Your timeline depends on how quickly you get licensed and reach your sales goals.
