Insurance Sales Consultant Jobs in California: Frequently Asked Questions
How do you become a insurance sales consultant in California?
You become a licensed insurance sales consultant in California by passing a state licensing exam administered through the California Department of Insurance. You must first complete a pre-licensing education course, then pass the exam for your chosen line of authority, such as life, health, or property and casualty. After passing, you apply for your license through the CDI. A high school diploma is the minimum education requirement, though many employers prefer a bachelor's degree in business or a related field.
Which companies hire insurance sales consultants in California?
California insurance sales consultant roles are posted by Infosys, EY, and Accenture and others right now, based on current listings on Migrate Mate as of September 2026. California's scale and regulatory complexity attract both national carriers and large independent brokerages with dedicated regional hiring pipelines.
Which California cities have the most insurance sales consultant jobs?
San Diego, Burbank, and Los Angeles have the most insurance sales consultant openings in California. Los Angeles generates the highest volume given its density of small businesses, high-net-worth individuals, and large employer groups, while San Francisco's concentration of tech companies and financial services firms sustains strong demand for group benefits and commercial lines consultants, and San Diego's military community and growing biotech sector add consistent openings.
Are there remote insurance sales consultant jobs in California?
Yes, though they are less common than in purely desk-based roles because client relationship building often involves in-person meetings. About 60% of insurance sales consultant openings tied to California are remote or hybrid as of September 2026, with fully remote roles more likely in group benefits consulting and inside sales than in field-based personal lines positions.
How can I get hired as a insurance sales consultant in California with little or no experience?
The most realistic entry path is joining a captive carrier's training program, where companies like State Farm and Farmers Insurance run structured agent development programs designed for candidates without prior insurance experience. Many California brokerages also hire entry-level client service representatives or associate advisors as a lateral move into a consulting track. Obtaining your California Department of Insurance license before applying gives you a measurable edge, and roles at independent agencies in suburban markets like the Inland Empire or Sacramento often have lower competition than downtown Los Angeles or San Francisco.
Where can I find and apply to insurance sales consultant jobs in California?
You can find and apply to insurance sales consultant jobs in California on Migrate Mate, which lists current California openings from employers actively hiring. Find roles that fit your experience, license type, and preferred region, then apply directly to the ones that match.
