- Builds, configures, and maintains virtualized server, compute, cloud, and enterprise storage environments to defined architecture and capacity standards, including infrastructure host lifecycle and patching.
- Administers the server operating systems that underpin the environment, including Windows Server and Linux hosts, and provides and patches the database server operating-system infrastructure for the ERP and quality systems. Database administration is owned by the Applications team and delivered through a managed database services provider, with whom this role coordinates on host availability, patching windows, and recovery.
- Implements and supports enterprise backup, immutable and offsite replication, and disaster recovery systems (for example, Veeam), and participates in scheduled DR testing and recovery validation under the direction of the Manager, IT Infrastructure & Security.
- Engineers and maintains LAN, WAN/SD-WAN, and network segmentation, including switching, routing, and structured cabling, to established design and security standards, and creates and maintains technical drawings documenting the infrastructure in place at Rea Magnet Wire.
- Engineers and maintains enterprise wireless (WLAN) infrastructure to defined segmentation and security standards.
- Implements approved network connectivity, routing, and segmentation changes across the environment, including firewall and perimeter changes carried out to the configurations and policy owned by the Manager, IT Infrastructure & Security.
- Maintains IT-side infrastructure up to the IT/OT boundary and implements the segmentation and security policy where the business network meets OT, in coordination with the Operational Technology team; boundary changes are made jointly.
- Applies server and infrastructure hardening baselines, keeps infrastructure systems patched and in compliance, and remediates infrastructure vulnerabilities identified through the department's vulnerability management program.
- Automates provisioning, configuration, and routine maintenance where practical (for example, PowerShell scripting and infrastructure-as-code) to improve consistency and reduce manual effort.
- Oversees the work of contractors and consultants on infrastructure projects when outside assistance is needed.
- Provides hands-on support, maintenance, and troubleshooting for LAN, WAN/SD-WAN, and wireless networks and for server and infrastructure systems across all facilities, resolving outages and performance issues.
- Proactively monitors the performance, capacity, and availability of infrastructure systems and networks, tuning for maximum uptime and operational efficiency and responding to infrastructure alerts.
- Provides advanced (third-level) troubleshooting and resolution for critical infrastructure components, supporting the Support & Systems team on escalations.
- Provides cross-cover for the department's cybersecurity function on server and infrastructure issues and shares the US after-hours on-call rotation, ensuring plant production operations are not adversely affected by system failures.
- Assists the Support & Systems team and other IT personnel with projects and escalations as needed.
- Performs other duties as assigned by the Manager, IT Infrastructure & Security.
- Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, or a related field, or an equivalent amount of previous relevant experience.
- Five (5) years of experience in infrastructure engineering or systems administration, preferably in a manufacturing environment.
- Hands-on experience with server virtualization, enterprise storage, and enterprise backup, replication, and disaster recovery (Veeam or similar).
- Working knowledge of enterprise networking, including switching, routing, VLANs and segmentation, WAN/SD-WAN, and structured cabling, with strong troubleshooting skills, and experience implementing changes to approved firewall and network configurations (Palo Alto and Panorama a plus).
- Server operating-system administration on Windows Server and Linux, including the host operating systems that support ERP and database workloads.
- Experience with cloud and hybrid infrastructure (Microsoft Azure preferred) and enterprise directory services (Active Directory and Entra ID).
- Scripting and automation ability (PowerShell preferred), with familiarity with infrastructure-as-code and configuration-management concepts.
- Knowledge of common business processes in a manufacturing environment, including awareness of IT/OT network segmentation on the plant floor.
- Relevant industry certifications a plus (for example, CompTIA Network+ or Security+, Microsoft Azure or Identity, Cisco, VMware, or Palo Alto).
- Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills; occasional short-term travel to remote facilities for project work as needed.
- Physical Demands: While performing duties of the job, the incumbent is frequently required to stand, walk, sit, climb stairs, reach above and below chest level, use hands to finger, handle or feel objects, tools or controls, reach with arms, talk and hear. The employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 35 pounds and may be exposed to chemical, non-toxic fumes or dust. Specific vision abilities required by the job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and the ability to focus.
- Work Environment: The incumbent will occasionally be exposed to cold temperatures below 65 degrees and heat above 80 degrees. The environment is well lit; the noise level is often minimal but the incumbent may be exposed to higher than 85 decibels on occasion.
