IT Engineer Jobs in Missouri: Frequently Asked Questions
How do you become a it engineer in Missouri?
Missouri does not require a state-issued license specifically for IT engineers, so the path typically starts with a bachelor's degree in information technology, computer science, or systems engineering. From there, employers across St. Louis and Kansas City expect industry certifications such as CompTIA A+, Network+, Security+, or vendor credentials from Cisco or Microsoft. Practical experience through internships at Missouri universities or tech-focused employers strengthens candidacy significantly.
Which companies hire it engineers in Missouri?
Companies currently hiring it engineers in Missouri include Nebius, Enterprise Mobility, and RGA, per current listings on Migrate Mate as of September 2026. Missouri's mix of defense contractors, large health systems, and financial services firms means hiring is distributed across both the St. Louis and Kansas City metros.
Which Missouri cities have the most it engineer jobs?
St. Louis, Kansas City, and Arnold account for the most it engineer openings in Missouri. St. Louis leads because of its concentration of defense contractors, healthcare IT organizations, and Fortune 500 headquarters, while Kansas City draws openings through its financial services sector and growing technology corridor, and Columbia benefits from university-affiliated and state government IT demand.
Are there remote it engineer jobs in Missouri?
Yes, and more than most fields. About 43% of it engineer openings tied to Missouri are remote or hybrid as of September 2026, reflecting how much of the work involves managing systems, cloud environments, and software rather than on-site hardware. Roles in cloud administration, IT project management, and cybersecurity are the most likely to be fully remote.
How can I get hired as a it engineer in Missouri with little or no experience?
The most realistic entry path is an IT support or help desk role at one of Missouri's large employers, such as a major health system, state government agency, or defense contractor, where entry-level positions are regularly posted and internal mobility into engineering roles is common. A CompTIA A+ or Network+ certification signals readiness to Missouri hiring managers. Associate degree programs at Missouri community colleges and co-op arrangements through the University of Missouri system also provide a direct pipeline into junior IT engineering positions.
